good thing I am not hungry reading about the pork chops, while I was out I stoped at this really nice greek family resturant and picked up a salad to go, it came with lemon rice soup and pita bread. There is something about the warm pita bread they give you at those type of restuarants they seem to be thicker and much better that ones they sell in the store. Do you guys have those Greek family style resturants around you, or is it just a MI thing.

It's funny, the hail is getting LOUDER and Kirby is now charging the door barking at it:biggrinjester:

Not around here, but Milwaukee does. That's the thing I miss most about run'n the East coast (NYC & NJ). All the restaurants and diners with their authentic cuisines:drool5:

On Long Island where I grew up, we had ton of Greek diners, that's the only place I have heard them called diners. When I was really young they used to look like silver bullets, I guess like a dinning car on the railroad. You could get anything from a bagel to a Lobster dinner. I spent many a late night/early morning in them during my single bar days:D

I golfed before I met Rob.

No more golfing. Can't do both.

Exactly!! So we meet at one guy's house and we eat egg mcmuffins and slam spicy bloody mary's. By the time we hit the course we are ready to rock, beers on carts. This group that I used to play with would be scrambles. So we had one guy that could drive, one guy that could pick up breakfast, one guy who made great bloody mary's and a guy who could putt. My specialty is the 4 iron and cigars. It's my best club. That, and I am good at the OMG shot. Like, I am behind a tree, around a corner, over a lake and 200 yards away but somehow I hit a shot so incredibly bad... that it is accidentally impossibly genius. :D
Cap it off with steaks for lunch and you take a quick nap and then head to the boat sober. Ready for the sunset ride. You just have to ease up on the beers and switch to water as you get well into the course. Lunch helps too.
Oh yeah... and a hot dog at the turn. :)

Know both well. And Gladstone, used to go jump off the railroad bridge over the river by there. An Aunt lived in Oregon City.

The old bridge to Oregon City near High Rocks, or the old train tressel? The water was so cold in the middle of summer in the Clackamas, my buddies said I was swimming for the shore before I hit the water. It was so high, you had to wear sneakers when you jumped. It sometime would tear the pockets right off your shorts! Some guys would climb up in the structure of the bridge, and have to jump over the sidewalk. I ain't that crazy!:)

Enjoy the time with your grandson and best wishes that everything goes well for your daughter.

I am doing a little babysitting of my own tomorrow. My girlfriend from the other side of the lake has no one to watch her 11 year old, so I told her she could bring her here for the day. She's a cut kid and can watch movies while I work. At lunch time I am taking her and my other girlfriend's 11 year old daughter to lunch and then back to her house for a play date. Since the kids live on opposite sides of the lake they go to different schools and have not met, hopefully lunch breaks the ice and that they will be able to play together. I might bring them back here at the end of the day and let them bake something, kids usually like to bake.

Yeah... well... don't call it a "play date" in front of the girls. If I remember correctly.... 11 year old girls think that they are 16. On the other hand, they will think that you are like.... omg.... 30! :D

Wish me luck today. I"ve been fighting with the state to have a brain tumor removed (non cancerous, acoustic neuroma). I'm going to try the ER today. It's been six freaking months, and I'm not getting, nor will I get, better without radiosurgery. It only a 45 minute procedure. I've been working on getting it resolved since I was diagnosed in October. I just had my first appointment with a neurologist last Monday. She said she hated to say it, but the ER may be my best bet.

Yeah... well... don't call it a "play date" in front of the girls. If I remember correctly.... 11 year old girls think that they are 16. On the other hand, they will think that you are like.... omg.... 30! :D
Should be fine. But you will have to overcome the food issues at lunch right off the bat! (Come on... you are an 11 year old girl, you go to lunch with another 11 year old girl, from a different school... and a lady who is like.... omg.... 30!) One of you three is going to be self-conscious.:blush5:

It went great, I had so much fun, Michelle arrived at 8:00 and I told her she could hang out and watch TV in my room while I worked, I was cool because I had a DVR and happened to have taped Dancing with the stars which she had missed the night before, so she watched that and another animal show I taped, then she napped until I said time for lunch. took her and the other girl to Applebees, the other girl, Danielle ordered a spinach salad with shrimp! I ordered the same thing, we laughed, talked and filled in the puzzle and games they had on the kids menu. Then we went to Wall mart to buy stuff to make cupcakes. I tired to drop the kids off like planned at Danielle's house, only her mother went out!!!! back at my house they played with or should I say terrorized Kirby, Mom came to get them in about 45 min, I said I would call at 4 and they could come back over. I called at 4:30 and they said your late, apparently they could not wait to get back here. I let them do all preparations on the batter, we sang, danced, and laughed the whole time. Then we went for a walk while everything was baking, I let them go in the backyard of a friends house that moved and they played in their tree-house and swings, "they kept asking are we going to get in trouble" then back home for the decorating frenzy. The other Mom picked them up at 7 and they were still not ready to go home. The cute thing is they really liked each other, there was a lot of teasing and laughing between all of us, each girl was sort of showing off in a nice way. They were all ready planning a sleepover by the time they left. I get a big kick out of kids and for some reason they seem to realize it and like to come around. Anyway it was a great day, even Kirby missed them when they left:biggrinjester:

Barb that is so sad about your friend, it reminds me of the Natasha Richardson story, how did he bump his head?

I had a freaky fall this morning, after I got up I was headed downstairs with Kirby in my arms. Our stairs start out with two steps sort of sideways then a landing and then the staircase. Some how my left foot seemed to turn under and I went crashing on to the top landing. It seems like slow mo and I had time to get a better hold on Kirby and even though he fell out of my arms it wasn't until my arms were just a few inches off the floor so he did like a gentle roll, we were both pretty stunned, I put him on my lap and we just sat there for about 5 min. Luckily for me I fell on the short part and not the entire length of the staircase. The stairs are wood and I was wearing socks so I probably slipped.

Probably me, I almost said they could have the sleepover here:party: Ian would kill me though.

The sad thing is my niece is a year older and has played with both of the girls separately while she has been visiting, they even had sleepovers. But she is such a different kid so playing all together would not work, she would probably be left out. We don't know what is wrong with her, she was adopted from China at 1 and has never been a bubbly, smiling, happy girl. She angers and pouts easily, has some speech problems and just can seem to socialize easy, when you try to bring things out of her she just wines a lot, all her sentences seemed dragged out, like mmmmmmmmmmmmmom i don't wannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnt to, why mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmom, you saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaid ask her a question and all you get are I dunno know, I don't care. As hard as I have tried, I never could have had a day like that with her. My sister has spent a ton of money on early intervention, testing, social skill classes, speech therapy, counseling, things like horseback riding lessons and nothing seems to bring her joy, very little smiles, it's very sad because as she gets older the kids notice her personality or lack of it more and now she is starting to loose the few friends she had. She is smart enough to realize that she's not popular or accepted but can't seem to understand how to keep it from happening.

That's tough. One thing I have always wondered about adoption is if you can ever over come the basic programing a child gets from there natural parents. I have a 13yo daughter, and 12 stepdaughter. They are night and day differant, but there are few things better, or tougher than watching a girl change into a young lady!

Nice. Spose to get 45 today. At least it's sunny. Hard to believe his girls are that old already. Had to think about that one when you posted their ages. Shows how long it's been since I seen Carl last. Had to be 1999. We gave them our PR sweatshirts for their ride home one night from Fondy, and that was the last PR I ran in. I also have some brain lesions that the other doc thought was from eating undercooked pork (a good possibility when I used to chase wild hogs), but they took six vials of blood to test (I've already been to an infectious disease specialist), but now they want to do a lumbar punch. I know there are several things they can check with spinal fluid, but the main thing I can tell they are looking for is MS. Hell, you get MS in your mid twenties, not at 53, even though there are documented cases from 2 y/o to 70 y/o. I didn't tell my mom that was a suspicion, because her younger sister had ms, and I didn't want mom to freak. I did tell dad, and he agreed he didn't think it was ms either, and that it's probably a good idea not to tell mom. Dad told me, "You know how your ma can get irrational about her kids". :)

The neurologist told me the lumbar punch wouldn't hurt. I wanted to ask him how many HE'd had! Then the nurse said it was like when she got a spinal block for giving birth. I told her I'd never heard any woman describe child birth as being "pleasant" either.

Morning everyone!

We had a great Easter. It was nice to have my daughter and our grandson up for a visit.

We cleaned out the garage (how does one 22x22 garage collect so much stuff in the winter months), so it feels good to walk into it today.

Had a nice dinner, played Euchre with some friends (girls won 5 out of 9 games!) and then out once we hit the bed. I had a tough time getting up this morning.

It's pretty today, but will be raining by the time rush hour rolls around. At least it isn't snow! :biggrinjester:

Hello y'all, Happy Belated Easter, Joe I am glad to see you still have your sense of humor. I am glad your folks are with you, it helps to have an extra pair of ears when the docs are explaining everything. I think about you often and am hoping you have some good news to share with us this evening.

Easter was all work for us, Ian and I raked all the dead grass from our lawns and cleaned out all the gardens which were still full of leaves. We wound up with over 20 of the big brown yard waste bags. We had Salmon for dinner at 8:00 and Ian was snoring by 9:30.

He has off today and went to pick up our big boat, he tried to put the dock in for our ski boat, but that did not go well, the end pole got suck in a big hole in the lake, so the right side of the dock is tilted about 90 deg. The water is frigging freezing and without waders and help he just could not get it situated. When the guys come to put our hoist in I will ask them to finish the dock. We have the ski boat in the driveway so I asked a neighbor if we could move it to their empty lot to make room for the big boat.
Getting the boats and yard in shape sure makes spring an extremely busy time.

We worked a lot this weekend. I picked up the "big boat" ;) Saturday and brought it home. I have been working in the yard a lot trying to get it ready for entertaining. I owe taxes to the city, my insurance is due for the whole year on all of the vehicles, and still getting the parts for the new power. My checkbook needs life support. :(

So much to do in the yard still. And I raked it all out a couple of weeks ago.

to funny, Ian uses my computer on the weekends and forgets that I am logged in, then he posts in the technical section, I think that's why so many of the guys think I understand motors:biggrinjester:

I just made something I have never made before, pea soup. I bought a big spiral ham. I did not cook it, just took it apart and Ian will have it several night this week, then I froze the rest in portions for him later. So instead of giving the bone away I tried making the soup. I think it came out good, but we will see what others think, I started with the split peas, chicken broth, the big ham bone, which had lots of meat on it. Then I put in dried onions, garlic powder and my girlfriend said she likes thyme. I think I put to much of that so I added a few packets of spenda then some of this Indian spice that has cinnamon and nutmeg and other stuff in it, Then I added some finely chopped carrots. Fished the big bone and the large chunks of meat out, tried to trim all the fat off the ham pieces, chopped that up and added more of the diced ham I had saved. I am eating a cup of it now. I like the hint of cinnamon, I also add a bit of cinnamon to pot roast. So anyone else make pea soup from their Easter ham.

My ex gf got bit by a porpoise once. We were in an idle zone at Venice, Fl. The porpoise was used to people feeding it sardines on the way in from fishing. It mistook a finger for a sardine. Luckily, it could tell it wasn't a sardine, and turned her finger loose immediately. It still bit the chit out of her, but it could have stripped all the meat off the bone in a heartbeat. Never forget, these are wild animals, whether they mean to hurt you or not.
