Inflation has hit everywhere but boat racing

Get back to your sheep your missing the point!Besides he's afraid to race!:dupe::lurk5:

I don't have sheep.... I have Horses, 1 mule & 2 donkeys.....And he happens to be a Very Succesfull Racer that knows the "Boat Racing Biz" better than most people, Has seen every Generation of racer(offshore & others) come & Go since the early 70's to present, Has seen all the offshore Org's start-try-and eventually fail, so if you think he doesn't know what he's talking about you'd be mistaken. and until we can get all the orgs together where we can have 20-30 boats per class it'll never be any fun to watch from the beach, Having 2-3 boats for a class isn't fun for anybody. I remember racing "A" class in 94-95 when apba and SBI got together at keywest and we had like 25+ "A" boats start the race..Now, If half the boats race for some other club then the'll probably be sitting home that weekend looking for offshore racing on tv (that won't be on)...

One more good one:

Unfortunately with offshore racing, it continues to be "Ground Hog Day" over and over and over again.

1980 - 1985 - 1990 - 1995 - 2000 - 2005 - 2009

The story is the same......just change the names.

Once a group starts getting some momentum, either it's leadership's egos get too big and the success starts to implode or a group of racers splinter off and decide they can build a better mouse trap.

Same sh*t - different year. The most amazing races were Key West 1987 and St. Pete in 2000. Over 100+ boats racing because everyone raced together.

In case you missed this-

Icons are here by special invitation. They're here because the Founders of the site have an understanding of the historical importance of what has gone before us. If you want to have polite but heated debate with YOUR PEERS about racing, the state of the boating iundustry or the price of Velveeta cheese, please feel free. We'll even provide you the space. But the Icon's aren't your's or my peers. If they were, we'd have Icon under our user name.

I'm sure none of our Icons would take offense to discussion and debate over any particular issue. But when you begin taking shots or making snide comments, that crosses the line.

Respect. Why is it so lacking in today's society? You don't have to agree with everything that an icon, legend, elder, etc. has to say. But damn, sit down, shut up, and listen. Who knows, you might just learn something. To chide them for sharing their wisdom and knowledge is just childish.

Well, I got to this one late, sorry about that. I think Rich can handle a little sparring just fine, but the tone among ALL our members must be respectful as we are all in this together, disagree, but do it politely.

All this talk , are any of your currently racing?

I will be in Biloxi this weekend supporting my favorite Organization.

Should be a great weekend!!

I hope you guys can find some thing good to say about it.

Cheers

As Howard Cosell once said down goes Tx down goes TXQUOTE]

Apparently you are out of your own bullets on this topic so you are applauding someone else's watergun... or p*ss ant attempt at being funny.

The fact is there is no sponsor money and no television to speak of. Even the Performance boating magazines are going belly up. You may not like the message, but ignoring it is not going to get you anywhere.

This thread is about the simple fact that the sport was significantly better at one time and the main reason that it has consistently fallen downward is that each generation of leadership has repeated the mistakes of the previous group without even knowing who they were or what happened in the past.

You may all look blindly to the "future"...but even the dimmest, drunkest, most starry eyed one among you has to realize that promises made only 12, 24, and 36 months ago have failed to materialize. If you took the time to look backwards you would see that these are the very same promises (TV, sponsor opportunities, "Class improvements", and "Unity") that have been broken for the past 20 years.
Well no brag just fact :sifone:Race your Skater or watever:rofl: 20 yrs Past is over!!Put positive thoughts about a great sport :seeya:Not nobody is United???There is more exposure here more than will ever Know!By they way how much for 1 of your CD's:rofl:

Dude who are you because obviously you are out of touch on the whole discussion here!!!!!

Is that a new pic? If so, how'd you do?

She ran great..twice now...looks like we will have it at the Switzer Regatta in July and Tonanwanda in September.....Maybe even North Carolina in May.

Wish I knew everything that killed it. It was taking off well.

Actually there were fatal and near fatal accidents because of the open cockpits and the speeds.

In retrospect the 500 and 525 HP's were probably too much power for the intended purpose of the classes which was to allow newcomers to get their feet wet at a controlled cost and a reasonably safe speed. Next thing you know Reggie was having engines "massaged" in the back woods and the single engine boats were exceeding 90 mph while the twins reached triple digits. The classes needed probably 400-425 hp and 70-80 mph speeds. By the time the dust settled Mercury had produced too many engines to change the rules and the safety envelope had been badly breached. These classes started from a conversation that Gene Whipp and I had about a column I wrote in "The Racer's Edge" urging a startup class that would have allowed somebody with a pleasure boat to go racing. I was thinking about existing hardware sitting in peoples' driveways and marina slips with family Mercruisers and outboards. Somehow it got modified into a whole new class of race engine, the 500 HP.

The rest is history.

I've often wondered why they couldn't have a propshaft dyno that you had to be certified to with weight restrictions per hp.
