Members of special designation - We have two special groups of members on this board. One of them is made up of notables and in some cases, legends. We call these people ICON The other group is made up of known industry professionals. They are recognizable by their designation in their profile or signature, found in each of their posts. These people are recognized for their knowledge and contribution to this sport. They are not required to earn anyone’s respect- they already have it. We are thankful to be graced with their participation and the knowledge (and sometimes the great stories) they’re willing to share. We call these people SO Tech Expert. While rudeness is frowned upon on this site, it absolutely will not be tolerated if directed at these people. Don’t argue, don’t question. Just say “thank you”.
Legend in your own mind!

I think Rich can handle a little sparring just fine, .
As Howard Cosell once said down goes Tx down goes TXQUOTE]
Apparently you are out of your own bullets on this topic so you are applauding someone else's watergun... or p*ss ant attempt at being funny.
The fact is there is no sponsor money and no television to speak of. Even the Performance boating magazines are going belly up. You may not like the message, but ignoring it is not going to get you anywhere.
This thread is about the simple fact that the sport was significantly better at one time and the main reason that it has consistently fallen downward is that each generation of leadership has repeated the mistakes of the previous group without even knowing who they were or what happened in the past.
You may all look blindly to the "future"...but even the dimmest, drunkest, most starry eyed one among you has to realize that promises made only 12, 24, and 36 months ago have failed to materialize. If you took the time to look backwards you would see that these are the very same promises (TV, sponsor opportunities, "Class improvements", and "Unity") that have been broken for the past 20 years.
Well no brag just fact :sifone:Race your Skater or watever:rofl: 20 yrs Past is over!!Put positive thoughts about a great sport :seeya:Not nobody is United???There is more exposure here more than will ever Know!By they way how much for 1 of your CD's:rofl:
Dude who are you because obviously you are out of touch on the whole discussion here!!!!!
Is that a new pic? If so, how'd you do?
Wish I knew everything that killed it. It was taking off well.
She ran great..twice now...looks like we will have it at the Switzer Regatta in July and Tonanwanda in September.....Maybe even North Carolina in May.
Actually there were fatal and near fatal accidents because of the open cockpits and the speeds.
In retrospect they 500 and 525 HP's were probably too much power for the intended purpose of the classes which was to allow newcomers to get their feet wet at a controlled cost and a reasonably safe speed. Next thing you know Reggie was having engines "massaged" in the back woods and the single engine boats were exceeding 90 mph while the twins reached triple digits. The classes needed probably 400-425 hp and 70-80 mph speeds. By the time the dust settled Mercury had produced too many engines to change the rules and the safety envelope had been badly breached. These classes started from a conversation that Gene Whipp and I had about a column I wrote in "The Racer's Edge" urging a startup class that would have allowed somebody with a pleasure boat to go racing. I was thinking about existing hardware sitting in peoples' driveways and marina slips with family Mercruisers and outboards. Somehow it got modified into a whole new class of race engine, the 500 HP.
The rest is history.
