Inflation has hit everywhere but boat racing

As Howard Cosell once said down goes Tx down goes TXQUOTE]

Apparently you are out of your own bullets on this topic so you are applauding someone else's watergun... or p*ss ant attempt at being funny.

The fact is there is no sponsor money and no television to speak of. Even the Performance boating magazines are going belly up. You may not like the message, but ignoring it is not going to get you anywhere.

This thread is about the simple fact that the sport was significantly better at one time and the main reason that it has consistently fallen downward is that each generation of leadership has repeated the mistakes of the previous group without even knowing who they were or what happened in the past.

You may all look blindly to the "future"...but even the dimmest, drunkest, most starry eyed one among you has to realize that promises made only 12, 24, and 36 months ago have failed to materialize. If you took the time to look backwards you would see that these are the very same promises (TV, sponsor opportunities, "Class improvements", and "Unity") that have been broken for the past 20 years.
Well no brag just fact :sifone:Race your Skater or watever:rofl: 20 yrs Past is over!!Put positive thoughts about a great sport :seeya:Not nobody is United???There is more exposure here more than will ever Know!By they way how much for 1 of your CD's:rofl:

T2x,

Why do so many people get bent out of shape when you're right? :boxing_smiley:

Maybe it's my bedside manner. I can't (won't) go around kissing everybody's butt or constantly overlooking failure like a lot of the guys today seem to thrive on. The politically correct stuff has been tried for decades and always ends up with a few bucks going into the hands of manipulative people who get away with peddling mediocrity as excitement, showing off as entertainment, and bait and switch as commerce.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming where some racer, whom you never heard of 2 years ago and won't remember 2 years from now, thanks his mom, the local dry cleaner, his brother-in-law, and all the "little people" who helped him to the "top"...... :D

Jim,

I wasn't commenting on the quality of their production, or anyones for that matter. They seem to do a very nice job production wise. I think the issue is with the product that they have to work with. I'm just not a big fan of "inshore" racing.

Robert

I agree..... and for the record.... Ryan does his level best as well. The problem is not with the announcers ...... It's in the end result.

Exposure?.......Where ESPN? ABC? CBS? Speed? You're right, I must have missed it.

But you are correct. I will "never know" the exposure you refer to...of course, neither will you.

United??? Where, I must have missed that too in my old age.

But please keep those "positive thoughts" flowing. When you have nothing tangible to point to, always say nice things. It works for Geithner.

:sifone::boxing_smiley::dupe::):26::blush5::drool5::leaving::rofl::kiss:

Note: I had no reason for putting in any of the above nonsensical smilies but they seem to be important to you in making points. They sure help when you have nothing else to say....don't they?

I think part of the problem is that racers view the sport from a racers perspective. Try putting yourself in the average joe's shoes. Does he know what class each boat is in? Does he care? He just wants to see boats going by at high speed. Go back to staggered starts on long courses. The racers get to test themselves and their machines out in the elements. The fans have boats going by at a pretty steady pace. It seems simple, and it should be simple.

Rob:

In reality, where Offshore has missed the boat is in getting the casual observors interested in the racing personalities of the sport. In many cases they don't hang around long enough to get an invested fan base. In other cases the fans can't understand the competition and who is where. Either way you will never have Gordon- Earnhardt- Johnson-Bush style excitement if nobody races against each other.

Gone are the days when Copeland, Gentry, Morales, Kramer, the Lavins, Kaiser, and a dozen others squared off and took each other and mother nature on simultaneously.

The simpler the better. I could tell you more about the race classes back in 1985 (when I was 5 yrs old) then today.

And true, the avg joe does just want to see big boats go fast, but you start to loose the interest of the public (and sponsor?) when it gets too confusing to follow. I can understand how the "offshore" element has gone by the wayside(racers safety, less of a spectator sport, mecahnical issues, etc.)...that part doesn't bother me that much. But it does bother me that there are so many racing leagues and classes that sometimes you end up watching a single boat compete to win a class....where's the racing in that????

I'll shut up now....:leaving:

Racing doesn't have speed limits. Want them to go slower; limit the machine so the racer is free to race- not watch their GPS (for example). Think Nascar restrictor plates.

KISS- keep it simple stupid. Some how I think all this has been said before....

Well said. And, not to piss people off, I think that the short courses where regular people can see from the shore, are extremely important to the growth of the sport. Long offshore races are nice, but the feeling of being up closse and personal is overall better for regular fans/people. Kind of like the difference between oval and road tracks in NASCAR.

I do not understand why, when going to the worlds even, there is not a big screen set up with live feeds from the choppers etc for everyone to watch.

I think they almost had it right when the Factory classes were starting to grow big-time. Then some had to (allegedly) cheat and the classes were ruined. And it was, Big Boats you could buy from a dealer, going fast.

There were many factors working against Factory classes.
