A 62-year-old Key West woman was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when she and her husband were thrown from their dinghy and her clothing became entangled in the outboard's propeller, according to the Coast Guard.

Wendy Everson remained in serious condition Monday at a Miami hospital, according to state and federal officials.

Everson and her husband, Robert Everson, 57, were in an inflatable dinghy near the Key West Channel when they were thrown overboard about 2:17 p.m., said Coast Guard Chief Ryan Doss.

A Coast Guard vessel was making its way back to Sector Key West when its crew noticed the dinghy circling about 500 yards away with no one on board, Doss said. The Coast Guard crew found the couple in the water. Robert Everson had suffered cuts and Wendy Everson was underwater, her bathing suit tangled in the propeller, Doss said.

Wendy Everson was unconscious, and crews began administering CPR on the way to the Coast Guard base, where paramedics were waiting, Doss said. Both were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center, but Wendy Everson was airlifted to Baptist Hospital, said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Lt. David Dipre.

"It appears that they took a wake sideways instead of straight on, but we're still investigating everything about the case," Dipre said. "We're still waiting to hear the cause."

Ouch

Accidents are getting more plentiful now
:(
A pontoon got RAN OVER by a bow rider not too far from me last week.
A lady had her leg cut up by a prop as she reboarded a lil' before that too.
:(
BE SAFE !!!

Sometimes you can't figure out what the heck.

That pontoon that got hit is a weird one. Very few boats on the lake, full day light, and a Searay boat with 6 people on it runs directly over a pontoon with 2 people on it. The one lady died in the hospital a day later....
