Very true , How close to the inside did the 111 think the middle-outside starting position go to ... looks like till they were just outside the flag boats wake ...

As you can see we "THOUGHT" we had lane one and were on the pace boats starboard side. You can see that both S-5 and S-110 were to the pace boat's port side and came across his wake and into our lane.

In all fairness , 110 did a big wheelie across both you and Pilar's wakes at the last moment . My guess is they didn't want to start from up on the beach. Between the pace boat getting to close to the shore and the rough water that day it was bound to happen . Once the pace boat got out of the way , Talbot went around the outside and gaped everyone . At least that's how it looked from where I was standing.
I hope your damage was only cosmetic, and good to see no one got hurt .

So the paceboat didn't leave enough room because of the rough surf close to shore?

It really was a no win situation , brought on by a weak starter .

If the pace boat moved over to the far inside , there would have been plenty of room for all the boats to line up outside of him , but then he might not have needed to throw the flag. They were all ready to start them self's wayyyyy before the start/finish line . Now that I think about it , I don't remember even seeing a flag . I think the #110 started the race ... Must be all that F-1 experience shining thru ..

Since the pace boat's driver chose to run in the middle outside to get everyone lined up evenly behind him to both his left and right side , the flagman should have pointed the flag at Ryan (as the #1 position ) and motioned him to his inside , instead of just letting the inside guy start outside of him and pinch the rest of the field into the breakers. At some point before going up on the beach , the #5 and then the #110 picked the only thing left to them ..
There was still a good 200 - 300 yards before the starting line for him to get out of the way before throwing the flag . And if they choose to not comply , he should have ran them in a circle till they were ready to have a controlled fair and even start.
Instead , it looked like a Saturday night "bomber" class race a little farther inland at Bithlo Speedway.

I think running in those conditions was a feat all unto itself . Ryan did a good job of keeping his stuff together and finishing the race . Does anyone have anything for Talbot .. ?

Good mornin Jason , It's a small world after all ...
I sure did have a great time over there for many years.
I sold my dragster a couple years back . Between most all the tracks going eighth/mile and all run fields, they made it really hard to spend the money to drive the car less and less ...
I was spending more and more time on my boat anyway .. Really good lookin whip in your avatar ...

lol I got a kick out of seeing you here Charlie. My drag racing days are done except for watching Street Outlaws. lol I sold my Chevelle operation about 10 years ago after growing tired of all the whiny street car guys in every town I traveled to. I've been enticed to build another car now that they have most of the turbo crap ironed out. But then I think about how the whiny bitches will never go away and I quickly lose interest. Good thing for those Street Outlaws guys cuz I'd be sending them home broke. I still do the Harley and dirt bike stuff and I got back into boating a few years ago after about a 15 year break. I picked up a 30' Scarab and the Chris-Cat in my avatar. I don't get out much but make the most of it when I do. I'm still recovering from last weekend....lol.

Ratickle's a cool cat and loves to buy people lunch so be sure to hook up with him when he's down your way

Did I see your name on that boat going for the outboard speed record? Did you do the chassis for that? What's going on with it?

    Bent ,
When you made me a moderator on your forum , part of the job description was to keep the thread on topic ...

Yes a great group of guys on here , and if you two come down here , I'll buy $150.00 of gas , and you two can pick up the tab for the $12.00 fish sammichs ...

I see Underdog has kept the "Zones" archives alive ... Another great group of guy's .. and gal's

Yes , I got hooked in with the "outboard record attempt" project thru the motor builder . I'll go the the record section and start a new thread ...!

About three years ago , I sold a 21' Superboat that I had since the mid ninety's and bought a 25' Motion cat. Growing up in Miami , I always wanted one . Thought I better build one before I get too old.
