    1988 30' Scarab Panther ...assistence please

    Hello all,

    A friend just picked up a 1988 30' Scarab Panther with 454ci, 385hp. Completely stock except for Gil exhaust and 850cfm carbs which seem to fat. Boat is running bravo 1's spinning Mirage 23P 3 blades at 5,000 rpms 61 on the GPS, 4 peeps n w approx 100 gallons of fuel. Any suggestions on carbs and props ? Looking for some assistence...Thanks

    change the carbs to 750s i have one like new one for $300 i can get one more if you need them bad

    No need to change the carbs. They can be adjusted. Send them to Nickerson or Pro Systems if you don't think you can do it. Mirages always slip a lot. Changing to Bravo 1's will make a world of difference. You'll pick up 5 mph at cruise speed. Probably even make it run faster as it will trim better. Your speed is only off by a little bit. New, that set-up ran about 67mph under ideal conditions..

    I had one with 330's. Swapped in a pair of 420's and picked up 8 mph. It was a fast boat in back in 1986.
