Bristol businessman, father remembered

Husband, father, racer and innovator were all words used to describe the owner of a Rhode Island-based powerboat company who died following a high-speed boat crash in Missouri.
Michael Fiore, 44, of Bristol, died Tuesday night at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri from complications from surgery after the accident.
Fiore was aboard a racing boat that flipped over on Lake of the Ozarks at more than 150 mph on Saturday morning. Authorities say wind played a role in the crash.
"He survived the boat crash. He's been in a few of them. Things happen when you go fast. He did survive that. It was a complication with an operation. Unfortunately, I don't know the details of it and at this point it's not going to bring him back. So, that's why I don't hold it against boats," said Paul Fiore, Michael's father.
Fiore was the owner of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats.
"We remember him like he's still here. Mike's still here. He's everywhere we look," said Fiore's business partner Brian McLaughlin. "His vision is still in here. His vision is still in the molds that we're making. He's still got another five or six years, kind of like Steve Jobs."
The accident was hard for the men to discuss, but they talked proudly about Michael's legacy.
Paul Fiore said his son loved being on the water and going fast.
"He always went one step beyond. That's why everybody loved him," he said.
Paul Fiore said his son inherited his love for speed and business sense. Paul Fiore owned a powerboat company in New York when his son was younger.
"Mike would get out of the school and he'd be working. He could do anything on the boat," Paul Fiore said.
Mike Fiore's most recent idea was to design a center console so families and not just racers would buy his powerboats.
"I've been retired for a while but I'm going to come in and help go forward for him," Paul Fiore said.
Michael Fiore was married with three young children.

Community Mourns Death of Michael Fiore, Powerboat Innovator, Racer
The president and CEO of Bristol's Outerlimits Offshore Powerboat Company died after complications from surgery following a boating crash.

Friends and family of MIchael Fiore, 44, the CEO of Bristol-based Outerlimits Offshore Powerboat Company, are in mourning after he died Tuesday due to complications from surgery after a boating crash during a race in Missouri over the weekend.
Fiore was the throttle man for the boat Outlimits, which was racing in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout when it lost control. He was transported to University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., after the crash.
In a statement, Outerlimits general counsel Frank Sciacca said that the entire Outerlimits family is devastated by the loss of a friend and leader.
“Mike’s love for high-speed boating was only outmatched by the love for his wife, three young children and his family,” Sciacca continued. “Details on arrangements will be made and released in the coming days, and in the meantime we hope all understand the family’s need to grieve for their loss privately.”
Fiore will be remembered as an industry pioneer, who founded OUterlimits Offshore Powerboats in 1993 with a desire to take what the industry was doing at the time and take it to a new, higher standard.
The company’s boats are technological marvels that offer luxury accommodations and space-age construction methods and can rocket upwards of 150 mph.
Hurt in the crash was 47-year-old Joel Begin, of Quebec, who was released from the hospital.
