The big yachts in Miami

very cool stuff to look at but not my crowd .......they don't share there hookers lol
 
I started working on yachts in october, so it has only been acouple months so far. we just got into atlantis this evening. we are docked next to man of steel, and there is a 200plus footer martha ann in here. I am hoping that the owners daughter is gonna bring me out for drinks tonight, i could use some after working 20 hours a day for the past 9 days.
 
I used to work (on his megayacht) for a very wealthy Italian who part owned a modelling agency back in the early 90's....did it real tough......I was the only single guy on board!
 
The mega yachts are cool but I wouldn't be bothered owning one no matter how much money I have. I could go 60-75ft on a sportfish that runs 50 mph for a few million but after that they get real real expensive to own/operate. The concept of paying a crew to maintain the boat is insanity to me. I don't mind paying a mechanic or a detail guy from time to time but these boats need daily care. Everyone working on them knows your rich so you get charged "all the money" for everything and at the end of the year you probably use this boat 30 days a year but you have paid to maintain it for all 365.....

The use vs. expense (as in time expense and monetary) doesn't compute. I would rather rent it for 50-100K a week or whatever it costs. Rent it and enjoy every minute, rather than hassle with it for the rest of the year.
 
Jupiter the rental of the boats is on the much higher side of your number plus tip! I have a customer that charters his out for 80K a week plus tip and that is a 140 foot sailboat. Some of these things have to be WELL over 100K a week mark. Now that being said you are probably correct in that you are still better off renting then owning.....

LMAO renting and owning goes for a lot of things in life.
 
the boat I work on has a full time crew of 7, and we bring on an 8th person when we are being used. it costs approximately 100 grand a month in salaries and upkeep to keep the boat going. and the boat stays behind the owners house, so there is no real docking expense. If we were in a marina, some charge up to $1000 a day. If you want to charter the boat it is $15000 a day, but luckily that does not include our travel time, and then there is usually a 20% tip split between the crew. it is definitely not a cheap hobby, but we are actually on the rather cheap side of ownership. if you step up to a 170-200 foot boat, the crew jumps to 17+ people. some of the bigger boats, well into the 250-300 ft mark charter in the med for half to 3/4 of a million for a week, that is one expensive vacation.
 
My good friend Marcel is first mate on Louis Vettons (SP who cares) yacht. They charge $250,000/ week plus expenses and tip. Usually comes to about $500,000 a week
 
My wife's uncle has a 75 footer that he keeps behind his house.......electric bill jumps $1500 a month when boat is plugged in (summer time). Of course it is all relative, house is in Lauderdale, 11,000 sq ft and power bill is $7,000 a month (600 amp service coming in).
