Racing Numbers?

Depending on the class, yes. Since the higher level spec classes are pretty easy to spot on the course they typically don't have a class designator like the P or Numeric classes do. So a Supercat will just have a number of the owners choice. In fact there have been a few races when a couple of #57 boats showed up since Pier 57 had so many race boats and now the new owners kept the same number. If you race in a bracket class you are given a letter (P) or a number (1-6) to put in front of the number you choose. Obviously, ideally, a new racer would contact the organization (like OPA) and see what numbers were available before they letter up their boat. Of course I have also helped put on electrical tape to make a "33", "38" or something similar at a race site:)

I've always assumed that the real reason underlying 27 different classes in offshore racing was so everyone can have the number "69" on their boats... :sifone:
