Poker Run and Banner Tribute to the Three We Lost

On sunday, after the end of the first race, there was an approximate 1 hour window where a gropup of Poker Run boats tried to do a three lap tribute to the three racers lost in competition during the previous days races. They were trying to run the course in reverse, while the harbor was open.

We were anchored at the time on the outside of turn two. The boats got just about to turn two, and the Coast Guard shut them down.

We were listening to the conversation on the VHF radio, the Coast Guard was not being very polite is the way I would put it. Pretty much the final word was something like, "You had better not put any one of these boats on plane anywhere on this course until all of the spectator boats are gone.

Here are a few shots of some of the boats, the Coast Guard boats, and the tribute banner.

I think the idea was a good one. A fitting tribute. Too bad...

Any input from others who were there is welcomed.
