Pittsburg Boaters?

Looking at the Three Rivers Regata as the P1 boats are running there this year along w/F2-3. Too close to home (2hrs) to miss I figure so we may go Sunday=Monday. Done some online homework already but no substitute for local knowlege. Looking for a marina to transient for a night or so that's close to the action. Or if you know of another nice out of the way place a boat ride away from the racing which we may like better.

Showers, bar and food required:) pet frendly too?
Thanks
Mark

I lived in Pittsburgh for 1-1/2 - 2 yrs.
Your best bet is probably gonna be Fox Chappel marina - I'm not sure what all amenities they have, but probably one of the nicest places on the Allegheny. Most likely they are a sponsor. Nice place.
After being used to the great lakes, boating in the burgh was a learning experience. I had 3 boats at the time, a cruiser, a sport/offshore, and a runabout. I would imagine the action is going to be down around "the point" (where the Mon, the Aleghenny, and the Ohio river all meet) downtown Pittsburgh. I don't think there are any locks/dams between Fox and the point - maybe one.
I have a good friend running a 27' Fountain out that way. His family owns a Harley Dealership in Tarentum, and he's REALLY in tune with everything going on in the area. I can put you in touch if you'd like.

Answers like that will always keep me coming back to this website.

That's what it's all about, isn't it?

My buddy Mark (also named Mark) gets on this site occasionally under the name "Monk Funk". He had a 32 Fountain for awhile, but for his type of boating on the rivers it was more boat and more work than he wanted, so he downsized to the single 27.
I left Pittsburgh 10 yrs ago, so I'm not current, but I have friends and family there that can guide you.
One thing I remember well - there wasn't coasties on the water there, just Fish & Game cops - "fish-heads". From all my dealings on Erie, coasties were always very cool. Fish-heads on the Allegheny sucked! Hard asses trying to prove they had some authority...

There was a Bruce Willis movie w/ Sarah Jessica Parker that was a "water cop" movie filmed in P-burgh in the '90s that was all done in the area. I don't recall the name. But, the scene where BW jumped a boat over the dam was shot at the end of my grandparents street. My Grandpa was a retired photographer and shot his own video while they were filming it. I think it was dam #5 on the river.

If you find a place to stay "up river" make sure you know what times the dam/locks close. I recall busting azz to get to the locks before they closed on a Sunday evening - otherwise, you were stuck up river and camping. Provided you have a full cooler, it's not a bad thing.
