I have a new toy.......

Ahhh... the joys of a single in a case like this. :)

Not trying to armchair quarterback, but did you test the exhaust manifolds?

I see that the port side seal between the manifold and the riser has leaked. Doesn't mean that it leaked in, but the old guys used to always tell me that if they leaked out, they likely leaked in. An inspection/replacement of the riser gaskets would be fairly cheap and easy.

Thanks Fundy....I need to figure out the exhaust too... every other one I have seen has a hose going from the top of the manifold to the riser. Where the water usually comes out of the manifold is plugged and there is a rubber cap on the riser barb...

Damn. I looked at the pic too long. Gonna be a long exhaust hose.
It made me want to put Gils in there that mix about 15 inches back with some chrome pipes.
Or CMIs.

:)

got the shift bracket all figured out, it was pieces parts, and the throbble cable setup. found one of the coil connectors was trashed, picking up a replacement at napa tomorrow. got some electrical gremlins... think everything is hooked up, put power to the boat, bumped the key, motor will turn but nothing else seems energized in the boat. making good progress.

making more progress... got the shift plate sorted out and mounted, fabbed up a throttle cable mount, fabbed up a mount for the oil and steering coolers, they didn't fit with the offshore mount. I had to make a new mount plate and space them down and in a bit. It does help to have a welder and lathe in the garage :) I had to unhook an oil line briefly for access. got oil dripped on me. the good thing is the oil was in decent shape. no burnt smell, no milkeyness etc. I do have some work to do with the steering hoses. I have the old style brazil actuator and the lines are for the new style. I have another pump and cooler wth the old style lines though, just have to figure out what I need to swap out. One of the coil connector plugs got bashed in shipping and broke, have a new on coming in from napa Monday.. still on course for first test run in 2 weeks.

more progress!!! pulled the rotten bolsters and spent yesterday with a table saw and a screw gun... piks later tonite. TRied for first fire. It will start on starting fluid, but that's it. I kmow nothing of fuel injection, does it take a lot of cranking to get the mechanical pump to pump enough fuel to get the system primed?? Do I need to prime something? bleed something?? Got the power to the dash sorted out and I think I have a couple bad switches etc. nothing to extraordinary.

I am really surprised they have a mechanical pump on fuel injection.

Since you are switching to injection from carb, is there a return line to the fuel tank? Typically injection will build pressure that is maintained in a fuel cicuit, or circle back to the tank, at a certain pressure like 50psi. Then when the engine needs it, it is there.

I am not familiar with your system, but I'm gonna go look at Fund's Find from earlier and see if the fuel circuit is in there.

Do you have a mechanical fuel pump on the sea pump or an electric pump. The electric pump set up needs the spin on filter filled with fuel to get running. The mechanical pump will draw fuel but it is better to fill the filter to quicken the start up time.

Does the engine have a serial number you can share with me. Or a picture of the top and front of the engine and I will try to help you more.
