High-speed hydroplane racing returns to White Lake Township

What's Happening
After a 10-year absence, high-speed inboard hydroplane racing returns to White Lake Township next weekend with Quake on the Lake on Aug. 15-16.

Seven classes of inboard hydroplanes will be featured, reaching speeds of over 120 mph on the 1-mile course on Pontiac Lake.

Presented by the Marine Prop Riders boat racing club — Michigan’s oldest boat racing organization — this year’s event will bring back piston-powered racing on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

More than 40 race boats from multiple states are expected to attend with the spectator viewing area at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area.

The event is free to the public with a Michigan recreation passport, which costs $20 and grants entry to all 103 Michigan state parks.
