Commentary: Why The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Still Matters

There will still be gaudy over-promotion of fuels and fuel additives that destroy the average boaters' fuel system, I trust.

That's a whole lot of nevers.

I remember when top fuel broke 200 in the quarter mile, Now, door cars are running over 200 in the eighth mile.

Or what about when somebody brings a top fuel boat, now that the run has been shortened? Can anybody say 300 top speed for the shootout?

And American Ethanol has already run 200 in a 3/4 mile shootout. (I assume without a running start faster than anyone else's). That is probably what they would have run last year if their too fast of start would not have been in-disqualified. (Yes I am bitter about that one after Garth, who had the fastest legal speed, passed away at his next event).

So many nevers which, unless the event is cancelled within the next few years, will all fall in my estimation. All it will take is one person to bring a top fuel hydro to the event that meets the minimum length.

Game over.......

The following year after the top fuel boat goes 300, the first four-seater top fuel boat will show up at a lunch stop at some fun run somewhere for drinks.
