A book by Paul Hendrickson.
This is excellent , tells about the boat trade in the 1930's....not much different than today...go out of business....another family member takes over, and reinvents itself.

Not much of a Hemingway fan as far as writing , but loved his lifestyle.

Built by Wheeler Shipyard in Brooklyn NY. in 1934. She came equipped with two engines..a 75 Horse Chrysler for cruising, and a 40 Horse Lycoming for trolling...would do 16 knots wide open, 38 feet long , 300 gallons of gas and 100 gallons of water.





Fantastic piece of history. Just heard that Cuba is (finally) rejuvenating the House and hopefully boat as well as the original Sloppy Joe's in Habana .

that is super cool. i love the red and black. sheri has been wanting me to buy a cruiser for the last 15 years. well i thing we have found it. oh wait i love/hate wood boats.

I had a wooden boat. Pacemaker....loved it and was terrified of it all at the same time. Most marinas are weary of them .

ON THIS DAY IN:







1935Maxwell Perkins, editor for Scribners magazine, Earl Roman, Rod and Reel editor for the Miami Herald and Ernest Hemingway were fishing in Hemingway's boat when all three men caught a sailfish.


(Interesting part of this is that Maxwell Perkins advanced Hemingway $3,000 for the purchase of the boat the year before)

I wanted to see it when in Cuba, but didn't make it to Havana.
