My first "fly-in"

I know this is not even remotely boating related, I it gets moved I understand, and if asked to, I will put these in more appropriate sections in the future; however most the got fast boat folks I know, like all things fast and shinny.

This past Sat, Frankie and I, went to our first "Fly-In" at Buchan Airport, here in Englewood. It was a opportunity for aircraft owners to fly in, spend some time with fellow aviation enthusiasts, and allow the public, a close up view of the aircraft. We had a great day, spending some time with one of Frankie's CAI-ERAU professors, who flew in, and is also a FAA licensed flight instructor.

Great pics....I've always wanted to get behind the stick of a bi-plane!!

One time, when I was young and foolish, I flew with a crop duster in his bi-plane dusting a pole bean field in Oregon. That was fun then, not so sure about now! (But I'd still do it again)

I guess I am still young 'at heart' and foolish.

Recently, I have been investigating the possibility of building a Vans RV-7.
Fuel Capacity 42 gal
Cruise [75% @ 8000 ft] 205 mph, Range [75% @ 8000 ft] 755 sm, 17.9 mpg
Cruise [55% @ 8000 ft] 185 mph, Range [55% @ 8000 ft] 925 sm, 22 mpg

It can be done one of two ways.

I can bend/trim all the sheet metal from the pre cut pieces, and then rivet every part together
OR
they do some sub-assembly, about 75% of the riveting, bending, triming of the wings and fuselage. They say this option saves about 35% of the 1700 hours estimated build time.

Here is a Vans RV-7, tail dragger.
