FL International Air show, photos

This past weekend, I was an invited VIP guest of Arcadia Aerospace, at the
2012 Florida International air show. This meant I got to park in the AA lot, on the
ramp, next to the flight line, got to enjoy food and drinks in the AA hq building,
and got to watch the show, in a private tent, right at the flight line. I have been to
this air show many times, and this was the best!

After the VIP show Fri night, one of the Areo L-39 jefs, had an incident on
approach and landing. This caused the entire L-39 portion of the BLACK
DIAMOND JET TEAM to remain on the ground on Sat. The 3 other L-39s
did perform on Sun, with the teams MIG-17s.

I have over 2,000 photos, and have just put up a few so far.
Many more to follow, so remember to check back.

This was only the second time I have shot an air-show with the 7D camera body,
and the first time using the 100-400L lens.

They announced the closing speed at 1,000 mph, and I almost got it perfectly.
I spoke with Jeff Geradi (Freeze Frame Video), on the phone, about this very photo.

I got tons more photos coming, and the best are yet to come, stay tuned.
I wonder how you could shoot that and get both in focus? The speed must be around 400mph each in opposite directions?????

Excellent. I usually manage to get a pic of a blurry tail... or empty sky.

Yep!

The first time I was in a fast boat, tring to shoot a FMO event, I got a whole lot of sky and water. Some how,
every once in a while, a boat wound up in the shot.

I have just gotten through the first 1,200 pictures, and have 1,300 left. Next up,
probably tomorrow, the jets. Many newly posted pictures, from the last 12 or
so hours, see links below

I'm with Bobcat, I would have missed for sure, nice photo. I cannot imagine how fast the shutter speed would have to be to get both in focus.

After speaking with Jeff, I realize that it is not a shutter speed issue.
I shot that one at 1/1600 sec.
I have asked a professional air show photographer for a tip on
how to get that shot. Waiting for a reply.

Stay tuned to this thread. The bulk of the jets shots are still to come,
perhaps today or tomorrow.

You got some nice shots Frank.....

DO you have a personal favorite? I know Pete's was the cone on his......

My favorite, Blue Angles shots, for several reasons.

They demonstrated the amazing precision and discipline of the team.
I have seen the professional NAVY photos, and this three are pretty close in quality.
The symmetry and position of the aircraft.
