I think we should work on projects like this. Can you imagine the excitement we would get if high school's had offshore race teams with say, 24' boats with small blocks or outboards running each other after school and on Saturday's?

Man, the turnout, I can envision it now. And the coach's, guys like Pepe, Reggie, Tres, JT, Teague, etc all volunteering to teach high school kids how to be successful in offshore racing.....

Heck, I'd probably volunteer to be an assistant coach, then move up to the big time after a few years of learning the ropes and driving/throttling secrets....

So what do you think?????

Martha's Vineyard Regional High School sailors get new boats

MVTimes.com: Sixteen members of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) sailing team, all wearing their new charcoal-grey team windbreakers, and several members of the Sail Martha’s Vineyard (Sail MV) board of directors lined up Monday (March 5) at the edge of the Steamship dock in Vineyard Haven. It was breezy and cool. They were eager to meet the 4:30 p.m. ferry. They wanted to see their new racing boats.
Soon after the ferry docked, Brock Callen, president of Sail MV, the Island nonprofit devoted to promoting sailing to young Vineyarders, drove a pickup truck off the ferry. Behind it was a large trailer carrying 6 brand-new sailboats, Collegiate 420 racing dinghies. Mr. Callen pulled the truck to the side and hopped out, all smiles. The student sailors, all smiles too, swarmed around the boats.

That would be great. Awesome idea. But schools in my area have given up on shop classes almost all together.
We still have the County wide Technical Center but it isn't what it used to be either.
It would be nice but with school budgets...
:( LOTS of things kids miss out on. Many important things scrapped in order to live up to requirements, mandates, and standards. Politics, you know:(

If they had offered Offshore Racing as a sport when I was in school, I'd have been there.....
