With hours to go still, the beach is already packed. People were lined up for miles at 6:30 this morning.

That is the one reason I believe you have to have "close to shore" Offshore races for most of the circuit.

I know the long offshore runs are the way it used to be, but without spectators to build a following, I think it's the wrong way to improve the visibility of the sport.

At the moment, it is quite calm. Light winds, and maybe a 1 foot chop. Time will tell. A lot can change when the sun begins creeping higher.

I must agree. I love how this city embraces the races in Sarasota. A walgreens we stopped at yesterday, maybe 10 miles from the beach, has a big sign up saying "get your suncoast offshore stuff here," and welcome race fans.

There was no less than a 5 minutes feature on the local news about the racing that thay're playing over and over. This is really cool.

They're expecting close to a million people here today.
