What is the difference between a performance boat and an offshore boat?

Fountain...you know...that one company that always beats old flatbottom Cigarettes with equal power...THAT Fountain. (and yes...NAME the water. It's not always the hull...its the DRIVER). Smoke that for dinner.

Wow!...Sensitive much?? I've been in a Fountain in decent size water...There's a reason I own a Cigarette...I like to get back in one piece (boat and body):p.

Not sensitive, just givin some back to the guy who can't seem to say enough crap about Fountain EVERY time the name comes up. Give it a rest, bro, we get it. Reggie must've been one hellava bully back in the day for you to still hold a grudge.

Settle down....I was just joking around in my post playing off of Rik's post. Reggie a bully? I don't know about that. He's never bullied me. But since you bring it up, I'll give him this; he pushes some good cool-aide...People such as yourself seem to enjoy it!:cheers2:

So THAT's it! Reggie pee'd in your kool-aid. I knew it was something along those lines! As for "drinking" what Reggie serves up...HELL YEAH I like my boat...I'm sorry you have a problem with that. I also wouldn't mind owning a Top Gun one day...unless of course it gives me a superiority complex...then I'd have to avoid it. If your recent comment were an isolated one, it'd slide without a second thought, but your consistent Reggie and Fountain bashing has grown tiresome. Hope you enjoy your offshore boat as much as I enjoy mine.

And Wrink...you KNOW IT. Always around when rag-baggers are in need!

Brother...I rarely (if ever) bash a fountain powerboat but will bash Reggie every chance I get. He's a tool. I don't mind the boats just don't choose to own one. With that said, my personal experience is they do not hold up as well as other brands in rougher water. That's not a bash, that's personal experience.

But hey, you say my opinions have grown tiresome for you...Look at it this way...Now that your hero reggie has run his company into the ground maybe we'll stop hearing from him and then I wont have to comment on the absurd and ridiculous BS he always pulled.

I just wrote something really nasty and potentially funny, but I don't know if you share the same dark humor that I do, so I'll just say this: Reg ain't and never has been a "hero" of mine. I've sat back and enjoyed his "absurd BS" for years...it has no bearing on what boat I bought...and when it comes right down to it, you have to be an INCREDIBLE automaton to buy a boat solely on what has been advertised, publicized and otherwise blown out of proportion by the proprietor of the brand.

TomAto, toMAto...Fountain, FonTANE...whatever. Don't take Reg's actions so personally...without him, this activity just wouldn't be as colorful.

Question: HOW many owners has Cig. had over ther years???? Just a question................

Not a Fountain guy here by any means. I am too curious how many times Cig has been run into the ground? I agree Reggie is a jag but so is Skip so who cares!

skipping the "pet manufacturer" part-

Not really hard and fast rule but there are "rules of thumb".

Any boat with a decent power to weight ratio can be called a "performance boat."

An "offshore boat" is typically a V hull (cats do apply however) that displays a V entry of between 21 and 24 degrees with 24 degrees being the accepted sweet spot by history and reality. The Bertram moppie gets credited for being one of the first (I really doubt it is) 24 degree v's to make a marked difference in offshore performance races.

V angles shallower than that are more typical of lake boats that dont have to cut through large waves - that said some "Lakes" can be absolutely brutal and are worse than the oceans on occasions. Lake michigan comes to mind.

Although many boaters have "offshore boats" the vast majority on this and other sites do very little "off-shoring" but merely run up and down coasts in ideal weather as fast as they can.

In my mind a boat setup for REAL offshore running boat isolates its occupants from not only waves and chop, but allows for unrestricted fog, day and night running with safe navigation.

In the ocean and great lakes the weather can change in an instant, fog can roll in, and the wave heights and periods can change faster than updates on the internet.

In short you can be as cautious as can be but you cant always depend on the weather cooperating, the ability to get you home when it gets bad is critical difference between a fast ocean capable boat and one set up for REAL offshore running.

Maybe not quite in line with the intent of the original question but I might put something like these into the offshore category
