This really ****es me off - new BS law

good law... know some people in town that had a late november incindent... no other boaters out there.... cold water... the coastgaurd got em but it was close

.

I cant believe how ,many people think that the government monitoring our every move is a good thing !!!

whatever happened to freedom ? that was a great concept . letting people choose how they wanted to live their lives

so I guess all the people who think this law is ok wont be mad if they put a nationwide speed limit of 40 mph on every recreational boat right . maybe even do away with prop driven drives all together and just make us all use jet drives , we don't need those dangerous props hurting us

maybe eventually we can do away with recreational boating all together cause that water is just tooo dangerous (sarcasm off)

The problem with that is if you save all of the stupid people, they breed with more stupid people. It is a growing problem.:sifone:

Instead of creating more laws that violate your rights and personal freedoms, why not fine the people that get themselves into trouble? If your dumb enough to fall out of a canoe in Jan with no life jacket and they have to come rescue you. You have to foot the bill. I know it won't work if they're dead.

Or the estate is responsible.

Of course with all you freedom guys there would be no charge if he fell out of the canoe cuz he was watching Rush Limbaugh videos on his ipod.

Mindless .

I completely agree. I wholeheartedly believe in the Constitution and I beleive in a black letter interpretation of it. But I also believed the Framer's never envisioned such a broad interpretave (liberal) view of it, nor a society so determined to hold onto their rights yet so unwilling to accept personal responsibility for their actions.

Here's an idea- how about we have a certification process for people? You have to have a proven record of not doing stupid things. If you pass, you get health insurance, life insurance, access to public safety services like police protection, fire services, ems, rescue, etc. For people that smoke, are obese, dring & drive, ride without helmets and so on, you're free to exercise your personal freedoms all you like. But when something bad happens, you're on your own.

Okay, I would make insurance available to them with the same restrictions llife insurance companies use though....

I kind of lean towards this saying....

"They who can give up liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Benjamin Franklin, 1775

Your always on your own life in general!:USA:

Chris's point is doing stupid stuff, then expecting the rest of society (us) to pay for your life style.

Medicaid, the new proposed health system, law suits, etc. etc.

He said that the same year when you went to the dentist they bashed your tooth out with a frozen turd.
Times and conditions have changed.

And you are hardly giving up liberty by having to wear a lifejacket.
Might I remind everyone here that they stop at a stop sign and stop at a red light every day. Is there a difference?

If they supply the jacket and it has a camera and a microphone in it, they are "monitoring."

If they just want to save public service workers from exposure to risk due to idiots who aren't smart enough to wear a pfd in the winter on a small boat then it's just legislated common sense.

But then the Darwin Survival of the Fittest continues to erode the human race.....:sifone:

I know. In the old days, stupid killed. That was it.
Do something stupid, you died.

These days, as soon as some idiot dies just after shouting "hey ya'll, watch this" the family sues and moves into an even nicer trailer.

So maybe the way to fix things involves something besides creating laws to protect the idiots, like getting rid of the lawyers. That would have the added bonus of getting rid of most of the politicians too.

Yep. Tort reform all the way.
