Sterndrive engineering(SEI) anyone ever use one??

We put the alpha replacement on a buddies boat 3 years ago and it is still going strong. It is on a 20' boat with a 400 hp sbc, and the guy thinks it's a jetski. Pegs it out of the hole every time out and no issues. HE broke 2 alphas in 3 years prior. They told him that it didn't matter what motor was in frotn of it they would replace it if it broke.

From what I have read in Tech in their forums, they stand behind it, plus they are local(Tampa Area). Shipping is only $29

Sounds good, the 3 liter merc outboard lower is essentially an Alpha Gen II, so that is what I am thinking, I have heard from a few mechanics, no issues so far. And I would say that most of their biz is alphas, since the Bravo replacement, and outboard stuff is pretty new, but the Alpha has been around since '03. Also, they recently upgraded their warranty from 1 year to 3 years, so that tells me they have faith in their stuf after 6 years in the field:sifone:

I think I'll go for it, and take one for the team, I'll let y'all know how it works out.

not 100% sure, but I believe reading in previous discussions here and there that the housing was an import but that the gears were glm....

Steve. Don't follow. Do you mean that they(SEI) are assembled here, using Chinese manufactured gears and shafts? Or?

I have always been told chinese (not ownership). They were out of OMC lowers about 2-3 months ago. They were awaiting a shipment but thatcould have been from anywhere. Locally they have gotten the tag "Chinese Alpha's" they may not be accurate an accuate origin.
