Single Engine, Full Canopy Boats

How about a "small money" Straight Vee - no steps, being allowed to cut 6" out of total freeboard, Still would be taller than a phantom, and no steps, custom canopy, think you could make room for it?? The point would be to build a different model boat that would fit into SVL without paying the cost of a Phantom, Using an existing older Hull.?

if your willing to tell what hull your thinking of useing,,, there are enough people on this site that can help you get the job done ,,,or help with an estimate,,, that might be a great insite on your project,,,,how much $$$$

Can someone give me the general rules to fit into SVL? Just the generals, like length, equipment, motor, drive, any prop regulations, things like that. I guess a full canopy is required?

Look at Tech Rules on the link. Strarts at page 27. There are also General rules where the canopy is described and required.

OSS Technical Rules - OSS Vee Lite Classes

All OSS Vee Lite (VL) classes must strictly adhere to the following specifications along with the general rules pertaining to all OSS classes.

1. Weights and Dimensions:

CL
VL

Hull type: Monohull
Length minimum: 26' 0"
Length maximum: 32' 0"
Beam maximum: 8' 6"
Tunnel width maximum measured at keel: n/a
Number of engines: 1
Height minimum (keel to deck :) n/a

Weight minimum, Bravo, Imco drive 4750 lbs *Changed*

2. OSS Approved Inboard Engines:

The Mercury Racing 525EFI (HP525EFI) is the only current production engine approved for use in VL.

Engines and outdrives are required to be standard production units.

A production unit is defined as one that is available to the general public for recreational use, and is produced in quantities of 100, or more units per year. Any engine or outdrive manufacturer meeting the minimum quantity production criteria may apply to the Technical Committee for approval of their product for competition. Approval is subject to production quantity verification and determination that no competitive advantage will be realized

i know, but somebody would come back a month later and say "hey, I read somewhere I can run an ilmor":sifone:

Paul you should include lines from the general rules that pertain to molds.

We would like to encourage future builds to use 525's. In the interest of simplicity. It is the lack of variation that has kept the class strong over the last number of years. More variation means more involved tech, which leads to more expense and complications.

Any body sincerely interested in SVL should contact any of the existing owners. SVL has a great bunch of people, a great competitive class and we would love to have new faces involved.

Where in these rules does it say ,,NO ONE OFF and U CAN"T CUT IT DOWN ???

If i would cut my boat down to 30 feet and slap a proven canopy on it ,,stick a 525 in it with a XR ,,,where does it say i can't do that for SVL ?????

Just curious .

Scott, you just need to read the rules.

General Technical rules.....

#6 - All boats must be approved.

#19a - One of a kind boats not allowed. All boats must be produced from dedicated molds. Any changes made to these molds must be approved.
