Powerboat P1 Coming Stateside This Season

you think P-1 should bring a class to USA ? Because?????? we need another class?????

Gino was working on a class cost of 50,000 and the outboards are 35,000 ,,,do you think that 15,000 dollars is what killed a class ,,NO people want to use the boat they have on the side of their house??? ,as for entry level we have a hand full and they are doing great.. P-4,5,6

No! My reason is this:
SuperStock was "the world’s fastest growing offshore powerboat racing series" according to Powerboat P1 Chairman and CEO, Asif Rangoonwala.

Superstock is now part of Powerboat P1 starting in the 2010 Season.

OK but their still OVERSEAS,,,,P-1 USA is here in America,,and want to start with 3 classes.. Classes that can be built quickly,,hense....canopy twins,,we have a couple thousand around,,,,open twins (F-2) and something like SVL,S,,,, it,s a very simple plan thats it ,,

if all these boats exist here and now in the US what makes you think things are going to change just because P1 and apba are going to jump on board?

in shark's defense the o/b setup is much more cost effective. and the IMO gino's deal fell thru because he couldn't build a F-1 type boat for anywhere close to $50K ready to race.

Did a bunch of SOB guys ALL say they were going racing a few years ago? With the BOATS THAT THEY ALREADY HAD! Weren't they offered PRIZE MONEY, with NO PURSE? Didn't only ONE BOAT show up? I know it happened several times that they ALL said they were coming and time and time again ONLY Herb showed up?

We DON'T need another class here. We need LESS classes. The 15 classes we race here is enough don't you think? Let's work on that and push people that build new boats into a class that already exists, not a new one.

This class FLOURISHED when it had HONDA's backing but failed when it was gone. These guys also recieved NO PRIZE MONEY. One last thing.....IMO it looks REALLY dangerous.

Dave ,I think some of these boats will come back because it,s something NEW run by someone NEW...Some will come back because it will be a little more cost effective...some will come back because of the marketing and exsposure to the sport..

as for the F-1 for 50.000 I agree,,just trying to make a point,, soon they will want a 200 hp outboard on a 22 ' ,,,then 150 on a 18' then we have 4 strokes vrs 2 strokes so on and so on

"Powerboat P1 Management Ltd. announced today that it plans to export its successful powerboat racing series to the United States."

Key word there is EXPORT.

It appears to me they are bringing the Classes with them along with the existing teams running overseas.

I am not sure how you got the idea this is a USA racing only?

Their intent is to bring their Series to North America under a subsidiary to grow as a World Championship and as a business.

This also states there will be more than 3 Classes represented by Powerboat P1
Powerboat P1 USA would then represent a sub-set of other existing classes offered within the APBA offshore category, focusing on a limited number of classes for a Powerboat P1 USA Continental Championship.

Now the question arises, "Who is a member of APBA Offshore and what are the classes of APBA Offshore?" Will APBA dictate the Classes or will it be that whatever current Org decides to sign on with APBA they will follow that Orgs Rulebook ?

You obviously completely missed my point. I was not looking for any more than what Powerboat P1 already has and will race in 2010.... and that includes the Superstock Series.

I never said it was a USA only..just the USA classes were 3 as of now!! I want it to be international and I want to be a part of it !! ..... I did miss your point,, and we do agree on a point I made IT,S A BUSINESS,,,WITH A BUSINESS PLAN !! well now you know their bringing that class overhere!! how many of those drooling guys you know over on the other site WILL BUILD A BOAT ??? let me guess NOT ONE ,,they never do ,,now that their bluff has been called..

TIM you know i respect you,, your work and your opinion,, my battery is going down,I can,t play anymore tonight ..have a great night ,,i owe u a beer..George Jr.

Single engine outboards have never really been popular here. Its more like Big blocks, headers, and blowers....

Is there even one racing now?

If you haven't had a chance, read Martin Sanborn's interview at http://speedonthewater.com. I found his comments about an "instant fleet" pretty interesting.

To that end, there are certainly mothballed Factory 2, Super V and Super V Lite raceboats that could probably be purchased at a (relativey speaking) lower cost than building a new boat used in P1 classes. The guy who wants to run "what's on the side of his house" (I like that) would obviously buy and old F-2 boat and run in Super Sport.

In general, I, too, think adding classes is a mistake, but in the case you're actually not--you're just renaming them and requiring them to adhere to a power-to-weight ratio specification. If your Super Sport (F-2) boat is too light for the power, for example, they add weight. It's that simple. (P1 used to require all racers to send their engines to Cosworth ... big pain ... now they have developed a torque/horsepower chip for next season that will be pulled and examined by P1 officials after every race. If you're out of spec, you get penalized.

Anyway, the "instant fleet" makes racing more affordable. Note I said, more affordable. Not cheap. Not something everyone can afford. It never will be.

Here's what the 2011 season for P1 in North America would look like if I understand it correctly: APBA-sanctioned organizers such as POPRA (and OSS and OPA if they become APBA-sanctioned) hold their races and offer P1 classes. Competitors in those classes are eligible to enter P1's own larger regional events. At the end of the season, the top finishers would be invited to P1's nationall event. Every couple of years or so, the top finishers on each continent would be invited to competed in P1 world event.

Its really not adding classes. Yes it is a new way of doing it but, the idea is simple. SVL -Pro AM isn't a new class. F2 Supersport plentiful stock of boats few which are raced now anyway. Evolution is a mix of all the canopy V's running together. Not everyone is interested in 2k mile road trips and racing they best through out the country.

There is one class of Canopied V TWIN. They ALL run together..WOW what a concept.

Anyone should still race their favorite Series. Now the Bonus is if you want to do a few more against the best from East to West, North and South you can. No need to re rig or re power just conform with weight. Simple no?

Now if you pick your races and choose 3 or 4 close to home it doesn't change anything for you. Except maybe one of them is extra special.

Martin posted in general racing discussion in the P1 thread!!!! Again as I said the Unification ball is now in our court what will we do with it???????
