Judge: Corps' negligence caused Katrina flooding

NEW ORLEANS – A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Army Corps of Engineers' failure to properly maintain a navigation channel led to massive flooding in Hurricane Katrina, a decision that could make the federal government vulnerable to billions of dollars in claims.

The plaintiffs lawyers would like Congress to set up a compensation fund to speed up payments to the thousands of other claimants, whose claims must still be heard in court.
 
A hurricane hit a costal town that is below sea level. The only people at fault are the ones who chose not to evacuate.
 
As much as it pains me to say it, serves them right! this goes back years to when Dems cut tax dollars from defense budgets. things like upkeep and armor on personnel carriers get set aside. This further goes to show that kanye west was wrong, George bush didnt do it :)
 
I dont disagree, they should have gotten out, however maybe the damage could have been less had the levy's been kept up. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. it was the responsibility of the governor and mayor nagin to remove people
 
look at our president,,,and the people that lived in the hole, what did ya expect.,,it,s easy to give away other peoples money, and ray nagin had 1400 school buses full of fuel drown, oooo don,t get me started, the battery on this thing will burn up???? my bottom line,,,THEIR ALL PHOQUEN STUPID,,,and thats all i have to say about that!
 
Forget evacuation. Here's an idea. Don't build a damn house below sea level. If you do build one below sea level I suggest making it waterproof.
 
Didn't I read somewhere that the LA governor took millions appropriated for Levy maintainence and used those funds for other "more important" projects??? Not sure I have that right but thought I read that back then.....this on top of all the other crap that Nagin did/didn't do.
 
mother nature took out N.O. a levy can mimimize damage, but not cause it. levy's dont create wind, levy's dont create rain.
 
The government has been paying to rebuild flooded houses for a long time.. Maybe this will end it. If your are in a flood zone now good luck getting insurance. Those days should be ending soon.
