I heard over the weekend from ex, that John Died - bicycle accident -(not motorcycle) - He was involved in many ways in the high performance boating industry - unique Parts - and yes, even some scandals -

Mr Amoto comes from Dry Martini fame as Mr. Lewis states(Hi Phil) colorful character.....RIP my condolences to the family!!!!

Being a bike rider I was curious how the man died, but now I am curious to know why the thread was started.

Maybe just went biking without a helmet and fell that´s all it takes.

Joe Amato
-you will be missed even over here.

My Condolences to the Family.

I'm just a spectator on this thread....but.....

I have never known Phil to back stab with "discretion". If he doesn't like you...he says it right out. Many of the "colorful characters" of our sport have (had) VERY checkered lifestyles...... but we partied with them and enjoyed their company(s) routinely. Today more than a few of them are doing life without parole or "sleeping with the fishes"....and I am not exagerating in any way. In the grand scheme of things we mourn their losses and point to their foibles with a sometimes morbid fascination and good natured ribbing.

Phil meant nothing by this other than to mark a passing of an old school personality, and I am sure somewhere John is laughing his otherworldly *ss off at how this thread got discomboobulated...

I know, I am.

Anytime we lose one of the pioneers and legends of the sport, it is a sad thing. I always hope every one of their stories is documented for all to enjoy in the future.

That's one of the reasons I encourage all of you to chat here.

And I hope Charlie's and John's new books come out sooner than later.

Once again, RIP John..........

some how - people are confusing JOE Amato with JOHN Amato - John had nothing to do with DRAG racing - NONE !

I've known Phil for 30 + years, through good and bad times. (mine, not his). He says what he means, and means what he says, but he has never been viscous or vindictive. You know where you stand with Phil, and if you don"t, you need help.

Hey Bobby - has it been that long ? NOPE - its 33 years -
Wow - seems like yesterday you and Davy Gilmore were looking at my boat at the Kings Grant Inn - at the Hennesy Grand Prix -

Now - watch out for a flying Compass - that photo of you in Saugatuck in 1981 was one of a kind -

All the BEST Bob !

Phil

Phil: do you still have that photo? That was almost as good.as Cape Coral '81, when Duane (my driver) missed the first turn boat, the whole modified class followed us, and we were all black flagged. Sal and Willy were not happy, along with a few others!!!

True that Bobby.
I've known Phil for 35 years and he is as down to earth as you can get.

Bobby here is a blast from the past.
It served me well for years....Thanks.
