Intracoastal mileage, Jacksonville to Key West?

A buddy of mine is travelling down the intracoastal, presently in Jacksonville, Florida. Does anyone have a mileage estimate from Jacksonville to Key West? He's in a small boat, travelling on the inside.

Hi Kurt. I don't have charts close at hand that I could measure but my guess is the waterway will be a few miles shorter than I-95 and US 1. Google maps shows JAX to MIA as 345 miles and another 163 miles from MIA to Key West for a total of 508 miles.
It has been several years since I have done JAX - MIA in the Intra coastal but I recall lots of idle zones along the way. If I remember right he is probably looking at almost 2 days from JAX - MIA and another day down to Key West. Might be able to do it in a bit less but not much. Good luck.

Reminds me of the last time I did it maybe 8 or 9 years ago. We did the ICW as there was a major storm going and could not run down on the outside. After day 1 we were so soaking wet we just wore bathing suits for day 2. LOL

That is on the GA/FL border. The ICW south isn't terrible up there, you can run decent speeds until Daytona then miles long no wake zones pop up.
