IHRA Changes Cat 300 class to a bracket class, top speed 70

I bet the racers who built new boats, or have new boats being built, or those who built molds to fit the 26' rule and are building boats, are really pissed.

How long before it gets changed back?

Other than making it a bracket class looks like it's just a copy of the APBA rules other than a few wording changes that cause it to make no sense in some wording.

And I really don't get the 70MPH maximum? Who the hell thought that one up? The boats will all run around 90, probably 85 or so in race trim.

Can you imagine spending over $100,000 on the best possible Cat 300 catamaran, and then have somebody tell you that you can't race it cause they decided to do away with the class? What's next, change Super Cat to a bracket class?

There are so many things going with this whole IHRA thing that leaves me shaking my head. And I’m only a spectator. You have to wonder what those that are “invested” in this are thinking.

APBA released their 2026 Offshore Rulebook, and Cat 300 is in there with the same rules as when it was created. We are pretty positive that IHRA will change theirs back from bracket class as soon as they see that.
