Rory McIlroy loses $1.9 million of Masters prize money just days after win

McIlroy's $4.5M Masters prize faces a ~$1.9M U.S./Georgia tax hit (41.99%).

State tax ranges from 0-13.3%. Federal is 37% at Masters winning income level.
The Georgia portion was 5.19%. (.94 higher than Michigan's 4.25%)

California is highest at 13.3%

So winning the US Open at Pebble Beach will cost you 50.3%.

Winning it in Michigan would cost you about 41.25%

Winning it in Florida would cost you about 37%.

Those Hawaii tournaments in January? 48%

I would like to see Scheffler get in a zone and overtake Fitzpatrick in 11 remaining holes from 4 strokes behind.
(Future readers, the RBC Heritage was on. It was Sunday.)

Dear AI, is Scottie Scheffler a much better fucking golfer than Fitzy? And has we won way more tournaments and is much wealthier?

"Yes, Scottie Scheffler has won significantly more tournaments than Matt Fitzpatrick in their professional careers, particularly on the PGA Tour. As of April 2026, Scheffler has achieved 20 PGA Tour wins (including multiple Masters titles) in only five years and maintained a dominant world No. 1 ranking, while Fitzpatrick has secured several wins, including the U.S. Open and the RBC Heritage in 15. Plus, Fitzy is a Euroweenie."
