Floater's

Joe, I've seen some interesting things floating in NY harbor over the years but don't believe I've ever seen a container!

Saw one fishing offshore some years back. Almost invisible- right at the surface. It would be interesting to hit one at speed.

There is a 2 week period in the spring up here that people are really cautious and on the look out for stuff.

Picnic tables and parts of ice huts are the large items.

Right at surface and hard to see.

years ago in the early 70's a boat (large burger) that was kept near my dads on the hackensack river was going up the east river at night and felt like he ran agound. He backed off and turned on his spotlight and just at the surface was a railroad box car floating.

When I was a kid and we were in the Narragansett bay with my fathers boat we came up on a bunch of bails floating in the water. I turned the boat to go get them (I was to younge to know what they were at the time), cops all over the place, and my dad was quick to grab the wheel and steer away from them. :D

In the late 70's early 80's happened a few times here off sandy hook just south of nyc. Bales washed up on sandy hook and along the jersey shore.

Never seen a container but have heard of it happening often.

I cam across a fishing boat one time that was in distress after losing both prop shafts due to a container strike. It was floating just barely 6 inches below the surface. Scary to think about. I'd hate to find one the hard way at speed.

if you ran across one of these in the ocean can you hook up to it and claim it,, like tow boat,,and the rest do to us..

I Believe thats what stopped Richard Bransons 1st Trans Atlantic attempt, with just 100 miles or less to go they hit a floating Container.

Also in the past I have seen them floating on the Beach in Miami and there was a "Free for All" with people emptying the contents...one of them was full of new Bicycles. what does the shipping co tell the customer, I don't know where your container went, must have been stolen.
