Best carrier for a shipping motor

I've got few prices from Fed ex (frieght) and another which I'm drawing a blank on the name right now. For terminal to terminal shipping of 1 motor from NY to CA for roughly $1000 one way

Does anybody have any carriers they would reccomend or could suggest ???

Wish I could help but I can't.
I will tell ya don't ever use the U.S. mail to try to get anything to Cananda:cuss::eek::mad:

Good luck hope someone can help:driving:

I just had to get that jab in on the mail system:boxing_smiley:

Yellow Freight Systems, USF Redaway; call a local transport broker and ask about your options, oftentimes they are looking to fill footage on transcontinental loads. Or call me and I'll give you some names. 503-975-0551 -Jeff

I use Fed ex freight only. However, I have a customer that works there and he set up my account with a smoking discount. You have to watch what class they use for the item you are shipping. The class designation can make the price 3 or 4 times more than another class. I believe I use class 70 for both parts and complete engines. I will verify that number for you.

I have also used freightquote.com in the past. You can get some good deals there.
Good luck

The best way is if you have some business with a large discount in place to ship to. The last block I shipped went to a friends business who had a 80% discount in place with Con-Way. And it was class 70. Remember classes are based on density, so the smaller the number, class 50 being the lowest, the cheaper the cost.

BE CAREFUL. You can reduce the class which will reduce the rate you pay......but it also reduces the insured amount considerably. I shipped my last motor class 85-100(?) to make sure if I never saw the thing again they would pay me what it would take to replace it....at Class 70 you might only get $5-10K if the motor is damaged/lost.

Forward air is good, but they're dock-to-dock. If it's individual-to-individual and both have trucks and a means to load and unload that works.

We have a national account with a couple of carriers and our discounts go as high as 70%. If you want to ship from NYC to Central LA, you're going to get hammered- the discounts are much less. The expensive part of freight is when you're delaing with local pickup and delivery and in larger cities it gets really bad.

Actually, now that you mention it, I may have shipped under class 85. Whatever class it was, they insured it up to 35K. I always make sure that whatever I ship is insured at least 100%. Thanks

Find a deal on freight, but not on the crate. Build a stand and box like you plan on them running over it.

ive called EVERYWHERE, the best by far is old dominion trucking, tell them you will bring it to there terminal and have it picked up from there terminal

Baby On Board!

Kevin:

As TxHawk says don't skimp on the crate, most crating houses like ours build nice heavyduty ones for about $150 and with those crazy forklift operators and truck packers make sure the outside of the crate says DO NOT STACK, FRAGILE, THIS SIDE UP and GLASS! all over!!

Were obviously anxious to see that puppy here but we like you want it to show up undamaged and ready to transform!

Talk to Ya!

Best Regards,
