My day from hell!

that really doesn't sound like such a bad day.:bump:

I had a similar thing happen on a holiday weekend. Found the water meter, unscrewed the broken stub and screwed in a nipple with a hose fitting, ran a hose to a faucet on the house and shut off the main valve. Back in business until the holiday was over

Alec, Buddy boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can make it...but not legally. There is a difference.

Yes. I dug it myself. With a fvcking shovel. The hard way. 24 inches deep. No freeze here.

Xmas?...I don't know anymore.
;)

We call it a Mexican Dragline.:ack2:

Mom just told me yesterday the maddest she ever was at my dad, was one time he refused to call a plumber when the sewer backed up. My sister and her husband happened to be there then. Barb said mom was mad as a hornet.

When I first got out of high school, I worked for a pipeline company. We were putting in gas lines, and broke many of the old clay pipes for sewage. If you drive down Clearwater Beach, you can still see where we cut the roads and driveways to install the gas lines.

Holy Sh!t...Cuda was in the original Village People! :D

That sucks about the 100 ft trench Nick......I would have found the Guatalmaleans for sure!

Nick shut the line off in the house and run a garden hose from your neighbors outside faucet to your outside faucet. It will give you water the pressure will be lower but you will have running water.

Damn Nick, and isn't the timing of such little events always perfect...

I know, being a guy, you probably could have made it a few days with out a shower, and found a bucket for the necessities, but, what we don't go through to keep the ladies happy.
Truthfully though, it's an eyeopener how often you use the home water or plumbing when suddenly it isn't working.
Merry Christmas to you and Erin. Hopefully you can salvage the holiday a bit.

I recall a few years back in Cinci coming home from work on a Fri. evening to find the gas shut off (about 20F outside during the day). They had mixed up our account with some deadbeats account that hadn't paid the bill.
That was a fun weekend, hanging blankets over the hallway and doorways from the kitchen, and (trying to) staying warm with a couple electric heaters and the kitchen oven. But, it's one of those times you never forget, and makes you stronger.
Just think, now you have another one of those stories to tell about the time you dug up the entire yard in a day... by hand... 2' down... by yourself... in the heat... etc...:)

We had a back up that flooded our house 4 days before our wedding! Had to rip out all the carpets and padding and vacume everything up it SUCKED.

That is the truth....I was in the middle of cooking chicken parm...I was like ughhhh! I can't do any dishes !!!!!

Poor Nick; just got home from work when I was out there with a flashlight. He pulled in the driveway and my first words...
'Ugh, I think we have a slight problem...' instead of 'Welcome home, how was your day!!!!'

He shut off the irrigation...it kept bubbling...he shut off the fresh water and then it stopped...DOUBLE UGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Turned it back on just enough to fill the tub for necessaties, and went into emergency mode; similarly for Hurricane preparedness :)

Had some neighbors leave their doors open for fresh water, laundry and showers; we have great neighbors!

Last night, the neighbors all came by for a pre-Holiday celebration! The men decided to releive themselve in the beautiful trench that was dug earlier in the day....

Today the line gets laid, water back on, cover it up and off to the east coast to see Nick's parents (crossed fingers if all goes well ;) )

Well, at least he didn't make you dig the trench......:)

Too bad that stuff happens. At least it wasn't in the very middle of a blizzard.....

Merry Christmas to both of you, take care......

Sucks Nick.....it is bad timing not that anytime for something like that is good.

Completely agree.... however, the timing could have been worse if we were out of town for two days, and came home to a hole in the yard since it's sandy sediment....and then had no water when I was hosting the dinner for my parents!!! That would have sucked...

But, I think of this situation, and then the other thread about acts of kindness and a few other scenarios...

1) We have great neighbors. Just got some texts, 'door is open, house is empty, go right ahead and make yourself comfy' That is great and I consider acts of kindness ;)

2) We will give to them (as have in the past) as they have given to us.

3) We will have water today to turn back on. I think of some that live out on the street, or river side. I reflect on the time I worked with a local non-profit; Green Armada; they clean up our local waterways. We worked along the Hillsborough river for a few mile stretch. I saw quite a few make shift homes. Life could be far worse...i.e. no water pipe to fix :(

We will probably pass each other on I-4. I'm headed from Deland, to St Pete to celebrate Christmas with my parents. :)

Ha!!!!! oh, contraire, mon frere! I did offer many, many times...

I have had trench digging experience in my younger days (I was a greens keeper on a golf course in college. My brother was the superintendent. I got to dig my own share of irrigation trenches; oh, those were the days :) )

But when it got to our irrigation lines; I got to get on my hands and knees to dig underneath them so we had enough clearance when the line gets laid today...yippeeee!!!!

I was more than happy to help! I kinda of like that sort of stuff; call me crazy :D

Bad timing - but at least you have the skill and drive to "get 'er done!". I know a few that would freak out and call me asking "How do you dig up a water line?" geez.....

Hope your day gets better!! Merry Christmas!!!!
