Some friends were over last night that go to 1000 Islands Pr every year.
We all look forward to the boats coming to our town docks.

Its a great run but each year they get hassled by some law enforcement officer.

Lot of slow zones in it make it very important to pay attention to the spectator boats.
The police have made it known that the fast speed boats arent really safe to have there. They told that to the boaters at last years pre run meeting.
Its been going on for years like that with them.

One guy that came over was mad because he heard there was going to be drag racing this year that would put the whole event in jeopardy.
My uncle goes to PR all over and he said that at every meeting they are told not to race because its dangerous and if there is an accident your boat insurance wont pay you because every policy excludes racing.

So why would 1000 islands PR have racing?

are we talking sanctioned drag racing..or the typical, 1st one the the bridge/first card stop etc drag racing??? most people that see a poker run don't know the difference between it and a race. they just see big bright fancy loud boats going fast.

There will be NO RACING during the PRA's 1000 Islands Poker Run on Saturday. There is a seperate event on the Sunday that seems similar to the Hit the Mark event they used to run.
Go to PRA's website for more information.

Dont confuse people here. Hit the Mark is a boater telling the judge in advance how fast he will go by a radar gun. Has NOTHING to do with fast speed.
On Sunday after the Poker Run PRA is having two boats race side by side to see who gets to a prescribed finish line first.

And THAT is racing and no poker runner has insurance for that. And Guaranteed PRA has no insurance for that.
And ALL of this breaks every single rule ever talked about in any drivers meeting.

Except there hasn't been a Driver's Meeting yet where this event was taking place. Stu is a pretty accessible guy, why don't you drop him an email and get the answer straight from PRA.
I am sure they have thought this through, guaranteeing that PRA has no insurance for the Sunday event is a pretty broad statement. Can you back it up? Or are you upset that Sunday's event is going to be in Gan and not Brockville?

No one has to call anyone. They have to be able to read English.

Its racing and it puts the whole event at risk.

Gan?---Brockville? How about nowhere.

Anyone that participates puts all boaters insurance at risk.

Its at Gan and where on that river is it busier than there?

Every Town council on the river is being notified.

From the PRA site. Looks like they are staggering the start - 2 at a time for safety. Also looks like there is a speed limit.

NOTE: NEW STARTING PROCEDURE FOR KINGSTON THIS YEAR.

BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERNS, THE FOLLOWING STAGGERED START PROCEDURE MUST BE ADHERED TO OR DISQUALIFICATION WILL RESULT.

All boats proceed on their own time out of Confederation Basin heading northerly towards the LaSalle Causeway crossing the harbour. Mill there and wait. Stand by in pairs.

A “Start Boat” being a family-type cruiser with control flags flying, will be moored in the middle of the harbour close to the milling area.

Starts will be made at short intervals with TWO BOATS ONLY in each start.

Once the Wolfe Island ferry boat has departed its dock and the departure route is clear, the “Over 80 mph” pace boat(s) will depart past this “Start Boat” and take a broad sweeping route past the downtown harbour area.

Approximately 10 seconds later, the “Start Boat”, using a green flag, will signal the first two boats from the “Over 80 mph” group to depart. These boats will follow precisely the same course as the pace boats did at a MAXIMUM 50 MPH. Then after another approximately 10 seconds, another two “Over 80mph” boats will be signaled to start.

The above procedure will be followed until after all of the “Over 80 mph” boats have departed. The “Under 80 mph” pace boat(s) will follow exactly the same procedure, followed by all of the “Under 80 mph” boats, TWO by TWO, approximately 10 seconds apart, until all boats have departed.
-YOU MUST FOLLOW THE DESIGNATED ROUTE THROUGH THE HARBOUR

-MAXIMUM SPEED 50 MPH UNTIL AFTER YOU PASS CEDAR ISLAND

-THE ABOVE PROCEDURE IS FOR KINGSTON ONLY. NORMAL GROUP
STARTS WILL OCCUR AT BROCKVILLE AND AT PRESCOTT.

-AT BROCKVILLE, THE SLOW GROUP WILL START FIRST

-AT PRESCOTT, THE FAST GROUP WILL START FIRST.

Why the sour grapes. It sounds to me like it is all hearsay.

Stu should get on here and confirm.

Exactly.

His problem isn't with the Saturday Poker Run, but an event that is supposed to take place on Sunday.

If you are not participating in the Sunday event, I don't see how it affects your insurance coverage for Saturday.

Again another statement that is tough to confirm.

What????? Dont you mean Sunday????? Saturday would appear the only event that PRA is putting on. I have read their agenda and it does not reference drag races anywhere.

Why dont you show me where it is written that there are going to be drag races...and then I will pay attention and respond.

Dont let that one guy get you bent.....there are alot of "one guys" at these things. Usually they that "one guy" has a problem with noise or speed...but it usually boils down to some guys coming in from out of town with bigger dicks.

I cannot imagine drag races being sanctioned by APBRA or what ever that deal is.

So it sounds to me to be a big bunch of BS - same BS that we get here at LKN.

'FBT" t shirts are sold out, does anyone have an extra I can purchase ? I am a XXL tall , thank you!

I think this may be what he is talking about..

The Sunday event is a seperate event.
Instead of getting your panties in a wad over what might happen, and who might be insured, why don't you just ask the simple question....

Is this a sanctioned event, and have the proper authorities been notified?

You could have probably saved yourself a whole lot of trouble by calling or emailing PRA's Toronto office.
