11-10-2011 06:04 PMone thing I would like to see is the "hover" feature that allows you to preview a thread before opening it. Surely, that has to be a feature with this new and improved software?

The smilies issue has been resolved. We will investigate the hover feature.
Search is still an issue. We purchased a different piece of search software- it's the same software Craigslist uses to index their massive site, so it's pretty much the best, most useful software there is. But making it index the old posts is a minor challenge.

From Post 23, above.
the software has it's own search feature, but it's both server-intensive and not very fast. It also doesn't do more advanced Boolean searches very well. We opted for a separate piece of search software that is much more flexible and sophisiticated.
The way the search software works is by indexing. On intervals, the server runs through every byte of data we have from postings and builds it's own roadmap. That way, when you run a search you don't have to sit through that process. The site is already pre-searched for you. If it worked the other way and every search required a line-by-line search of the site, searches would take hours instead of fractions of seconds. Multiply that by everyone that wants to run a search...
So what this new software has to do is rebuild it's index. We are having the typical and expected issues that are part and parcel to all things that run on software that you're using for the first time. We are working quickly toresolve a handful of bugs. We have knocked a few off the list and a few key one's remain- like the avatar issue and search indexing. They're first on the list.
We appreciate your patience while we work through this transition. If you see something or have a suggestion, please let us know so we can add it to our list.

Any and all observations are appreciated.Getting bad advice is unfortunate, taking bad advice is a Serious matter!!
