IMO,
First of all Steve/Gary and Randy/Colby ran great and you have to run well against the top teams.
The Fountain might have proped a little short but they did not miss the set up by much.
If they would have gone too snall then they should have had much more accelaration than Steve and Randy at start. They did not.
We will see what happens on Friday and Sunday, hopefully it will get just a bit rougher.
Again,
Fantastic driving by Gary. I spoke to Randy and he said Gary drove a great race.

Wil, I do not know how many times you have actually seen the Fountain run this year but I have seen it several times and can tell you that they either had a hurt motor or missed their setup HUGE. I do agree that they did not go too small on the prop. I saw SunPrint and Typhoon out accelerate them coming out of the harbor turn. I also heard they were not on the rev-limiter at all, which leads me to this: A few years ago the Super V teams started running 1:36 gears in calm races for better top end. That set up kills acceleration, however. Given Fountain's connection to Super V, what are the chances that they actually ran a 1:36 gear?

We would have most certainly ran the 1:36 with a 31 in those conditions on our SV.

11-11-2010 03:04 PMMike,
As it is usual I heard completely the opposite. I heard the were hitting the rev limiter going into harbor.
As far as the 1:36 gear ratios in SVL, It does not work for race conditions, even in flat water. 1:50 is plenty for flat and we tried 1:65 and also it did not work for us.
In SV the only reason the 1:50 is not used is because you run out of prop picth, when the SV went to the 6's that problem went away.
Again,
All this is speculative at best as far is the funtain goes. Steve and Randy need to be ready for Friday.
I still believe that they can be competitive!!

Hey Dean, explain that to me. I bought the JBS Super V and it came with 1:36 gears. We only ran it a few times before sending it in for a face lift, but full of fuel it is an absolute pig on acceleration. My guess is it will pick up with a lighter fuel load, but is the top end increase really enough to overcome the total lack of acceleration in race conditions? Hard to believe but I guess it must since so many are running that combination.

Hahaha. That is so freaking true ain't it? Damn. No doubt this is all speculation but that is what makes racing, and being fans of racing, so much fun. Obviously, Randy and Steve can be competitive down there; they both beat the Fountain. All I am saying is that the Fountain was a much different boat on Wednesday than it has been all year. Do not know why, just know. We will see tomorrow for sure, and I hope I have been wrong all year, but I think it is wishful. What are the conditions supposed to be like tomorrow?

I'd like to, but how can someone pick from 500 classes and myriad rules with barely any enforcement?

11-11-2010 08:22 PMAccidents happen all the time when racing hard.
My understanding was it happened in turn 3 or harbor turn.
Randy was on the inside and boats came together.
It's not the first time or the last a little rubbing will go on.
Tomorrow should be a blast!
Even Bruceee the shark is on his way to KW!!
