Mystic
The problem with the JBS boat was not a structural failure by
any means. The outer layer of carbon that came off is a vail
layer to lessen print through and act as a barrier to the inner
structural layers of carbon. The laminate was left open to long in
this area of the boat and started to cure before the vacuum bag
went down so it didn't adhere well enough to the inner skins and
after running loosened up and sheeted off.
As Joe said Mystic Powerboats is standing behind this problem
100% and the repair is nearly complete. The boat will be up and
running again very soon for a long winter of testing and many
years of very competitive racing. My crew and myself take great
pride in what we build and work very hard at it, we are very
sorry for the inconvenience of this but I can personally assure
you that Jeff and Joe were NEVER in any danger because of the
delamination.
Seeing four of our boats running at Key West was very exciting
and rewarding we are looking forward to a great season next
year for all of our boats.
Best regards,
John Cosker
President

Point is: We were not running a boat that was sinking from the 1st lap. There were MANY people involved in the decision to continue and at what speeds at this event; NOT one or two "ego's" inside the boat. No different from running the boat last year or in the future.
When it comes to safety...I am all ears! Team JBS is all ears!

Let me pose this question to the group.....
Should I go for the cheap and easy laugh here, or out of respect that some of us have had a very stressful week....leave this laying out there like a fat curve ball in the All Star game?
You choose.......

While you are all pondering the above, I just received the following Press Release:
Dateline: Vienna 4/24/09
Team SchwartzCraft announces major Promotional Opportunity
According to Luvya Willingly, SchwartzCraft's recently appointed Press Secretary, a major publicity coup has been scored by the controversial World Record holding powerboat manufacturer and international crime syndicate. In a joint release with NY City Mayor Bloomberg, Miss Willingly, who has a very unusual accent, divulged that the World's Fastest Monohull, "Team Schwartz", will be covered with high intensity light bulbs and lowered from the NY Times Tower on New Years eve at midnite. This annual event is seen by millions World Wide on TV as well as hundreds of thousands huddled together in chilly Times Square.
When asked what exactly this has to do with Offshore Powerboat racing, Miss Willingly replied with just a hint of seductive huskiness:"Well, nothing actually but since actual racing events have almost ceased to exist in the U.S., we felt that we had to do something to promote the sport".
Following this announcement, a lavish lunch was served to the assembled, beedy eyed media who gobbled up tasty home made pasta in a wonderful Sea Urchin sauce washed down with exotic Tequila based cocktails. This repast was interrupted when someone in the crowd asked if Miss Willingly had undergone a recent sex change operation. Immediately a fist fight broke out and the room was cleared by the police.

You found them! Thought we should show the American ones too
There is a large contingent of these things in the South Pacific countries as they are a "poor mans" econo box for fuel economy. Crazy as it sounds there are a lot of guys building these 15 knot cruisers that want fuel mileage. Imagine the nerve

04-24-2009 07:22 PMIn the interest of completely diversifying this thread, I must correct the "great one", RL, with the news that the 'Schwartz' is a cat, not a vee. In fact, it is a standard Shadow (Dumpstercraft} on one side, and a wave piercing (not to be confused with Rich's gay ear stud) bow on the other. The side with the "stabber" is 11 mph slower, but it only burns half the fuel. May the Scwartz be with you..........

04-24-2009 09:25 PM[QUOTE=audacity;200301]You do not know Jeff or myself.
this is true, but if i owned a million dollar race boat and someone said " hea it looks like you got some dalamination on the bottom of the boat". i think i would play it safe and head towards the closest place to get her out of the water.
also i would like to ask T2x to do a race report for all SBI races or get his own forum, cause that's some funny stuff.

I am trying to get Mr. Luhrs to come out off retirement!!!! He could do the OFC Offshore Report a weekly hourly insight to the follies and misconceptions of racing offshore boats on tunnel boat courses!!!!!
I know I will take my hits for that statement....God forgives.....The 1% doesn't!!!!!!
