Thousands are expected to gather along the Detroit River waterfront in Elizabeth Park for PNC Bank’s annual Roar on the River, Downriver’s premier hydroplane races July 17 to 19.

Kicking off the event from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday is Roar on the River’s Friday Night Party Tastefest, where attendees can sample a selection of the region’s best restaurants and caterers while enjoying entertainment provided by Fifty Amp Fuse.

This year’s theme is Christmas in July, so all attendees are invited to dress up in holiday apparel for prizes.
