After the race and everyone goes home and parks there boat that Fountain has about 5 more races put on it everyday at the Fountain plant they never stop dialing it in. I spent a week there dialing R-Rated in and I learned a lot paying attenion to detail and it payed off in St. Clair. The Michigan Madman

07-30-2010 09:30 AMa rule book will not to any good if the current, basic rules are not even being inforced, weight, rpm/cpu check, ballast tanks, etc.

Obviously since I was not in thier boat or racing against them. They were however very close to that and I was shocked to see them exiting the turn just behind us and to the inside. Normally VLs don't capture my attention on the course but this one did. They were very impressive and clearly running in excess of 100mph.
Congrats to them.

Dean....I agree...of all the SVLs the Fountain had that boat running perfect...I know the Phontoms and Extremes like to chine walk....but the most noticible thing in that class is that fountain did very little chine walking and know matter what wake was in front of them they still stayed tight in the turns and on the course....thats why I said hats of to Docs daughter...thats not a fun possision to be in even in a SV....
Are the SVL's coming to Patchaque.....2009 Activator/ Powered by ILMOR

07-30-2010 11:46 AMIn legal trim, weight and HP. It is impossible for a VL to run 100 +. The physics are not possible.
The Drag Co. would be closer to a Cat.
When you are passing a slower boat on a course, especially in classes that are seperated by 10 mph it seems that the slower boat is going faster than the actual speed.
In my limited experience, I have experienced it in VL against aSV. It has happenned in a SV against a CL. It has happenned in a CL against a Sc and finally in a SC against Geico.
Just my .02 cents.
That Fountain is dialed in and fast but I doubt that it runs 100 legally.

I think the problem here is no one knows what it really runs...guys are just estimating mph....
But if the Fontain was running 100 -101 down current whats all the hype about...its still just a 97mph boat....
When we tested Satuday...we ran the boat up river with tabs up and drive out at 3.5...and ran it exactly the same down river...and there was a 6.4mph differance..
This is were all this becomes alot of BS....
When a 12 year old boat can run 96 -97 mph in SVL and its the fastest speed the boat has ever seen in 10 -12 years...with the same HP and gear ratio and weight...thats ok..
But if a new boat with all the tech and and all the racing experiance that Fountain has runs 97-99...its cheating....I'm not sayig they are ..or are not...
I'm just saying if these old boats are running 96+ then I would expect the new SVL to do at least 3 to 5 mph faster...
Everyone is making it sound like Imco has max out any SVL speed at 96+...no one will ever go any faster or it will be cheating...because the laws of physics will be broken over 100...
Has anyone seen the Fountain actually do 100+..and if not....why all the hype...other then you guys just gave Fountain alot of attention after the St. Clair race and none to the rest of the teams running..2009 Activator/ Powered by ILMOR

Jim I kinda have to laugh at this cutting off thing....
I asked you on Friday when are the SVL guys going to let me run as a exibition to see how the Ilmor 625 wiil run with the 525's ..
You said to me..you don't want to race with these guys...they like to trade paint....and I said....So...
I have also seen a number of pics with the SVL hitting each other on the course...
Now...don't get me wrong...
Every class has this...
I have had it done to me...and I have done it...not on purpose..but by accident...
We all have....even you have been there done that...
Now I agree...there should be rules put in place...and there has been...but how many times have they been broken....and nothing done about it...
I'm not belittle the protest of the 3 SVL teams...but I have seen you guys do this before....I cannot say how dangerours the move was...I did not see it and its not anyones call but the officals...we all want to be safe out there...but have you ever made a unsafe move..not saying on purpose..but you made a move that you tought was safe and it ended up not so safe at all
The point is...enforce a unsafe move...then you better enforce ever unsafe move that is made on the course all the time....as per the rules..2009 Activator/ Powered by ILMOR

Gino, I have no issue with however fast it may be.. Its a new boat and runs very well. Our boat was even with it until the point we were pushed off course and backed out of it.. After we got hosed our boat would only turn 4900.. I also suspect the Boatfloater boat would have given him a run down the back stretch as well if they hadn't had to cross two wakes and get hosed on the way to the first turn..
Maybe you should wait until Smitty makes his ruling on the start issue before you praise the other team any further... They obviously to me failed to hold their starting lane through turn one as we all were instructed to do at the drivers meeting Sunday morning.

Jim...You have to be kidding me...you guys are so touchie.....look back on what my comments are...
I said hats off to a 17 year old girl in her second race...and commending her....
Weither she gets DQ or first place...my comments will still stand...she ran a great race and yes..the Fountain ran great...did you expect anything less from them...
Because you got hoose down and pushed out...I understand...
But I don't need Smitty to rule on a race to compliment a young racers...
Thats funny...NO PRAISING RACE TEAMS TILL THE STANDINGS ARE FINAL...Last edited by MANITIE; 07-30-2010 at 12:52 PM.

Gino further to your point of trading paint.. With the instructions that were given by Smitty we were ALL supposed to round the first turn in our lanes before the battle was to begin. The point here is not that we are willing to trade paint or not.
Did you hear Smitty's instructions? Did you and everyone in your class abide by them?

Yes...I heard....and I obeyed them going into turn 1...
I also heard Smitty say in the same sentance....races are not won or lost in the 1st turn...
Mike T always said that in the drivers meeting in APBA along with Pop..
John C also has this rule..maintain your lanes going into turn one...
You have how may races under your belt...since 2002...50- 60+...and how many times have you seen that rule borken...
I have seen it so many times...I take the outside lane every race I can or get as far outside as I can....
But I did not know your rule book said trading paint is legal after turn 1...
Jim this is racing...you are just as agessive as the next guy....you race with Fountain...
My first race in F1 Reggie told me...now on the start going into the 1st turn....these guys are going to cut you off and push you out...just stay in your lane and don't come off the throttles...
Again...don't get me wrong...safety first... but you have some guys in your class that are problably some of the most agressive racers out here today...and have been around for a long time...are good...
But if your comment is these guys like trading paint in this class...then cutting guys off is the least of your issues if trading paint at 94 mph is safe...Last edited by MANITIE; 07-30-2010 at 01:09 PM.
