I was watching the World's Most Expensive rides I had tivo'ed with the Mercedes boat and was wondering why an oil change on that car cost "$10,000.00"?

Probably the same reason a tire change on the Bugatti Veyron costs $70,000.

Because they probably do a valve adjustment or something else at the same interval as the oil change. On the Ferrari Enzo it is 24,000 because the oil is something designed only for that car.......

On an SLR the motor has to be pulled to change the spark plugs......You need to remove the fuel tank to change the fuel filter. I suspect that is why most of these cars have no miles on them!

you would think that when they design one of these things they would use the R&D money to make the thing indestructible, fast and very well thought out.

Ferrari finally got rid of the belt issue and went chain drive on the F430; how long did that take like.......

I was talking about this the other day. It pisses me off because supercars have smart people designing them.

It is pretty obvious that it is an intentional ploy to make money off the rich buyers in service costs but it is a pain in the ass when, 25 years later you see Testarossa's selling for 45-50k but everyone is scared to even go near one because of the maintenence issues.

Old boats are often maintenence nightmares but so are new boats. A 1960's Corvette is easy to maintain and doesnt break...why does a 1980's Vette spend more time in the shop than on the road. Why does my Z06 have stupid electronic door handles that drain the battery? The door handles on our other, older Z06 work pretty good with a sinple latch?

again, makes no sense...pet peeve of mine.

yep . . . and i believe it also voids any warranty if you have the regular scheduled service done outside a MB dealership. So basically your screwed and have no other choice in the matter.

Keep in mind the SLR was a joint effort with McClaren who believes service should include sending their techs worldwide to service your McClaren F1!

DD some people believe complicated is better, of course that is why it costs so much!

With that kind of mileage I'm not sure he has a whole lot of insight on maintenance issues! You should be a better friend and offer to "exercise" the car for the guy!
