LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — The Miami International Boat Show is often the place where new, innovative boating products are unveiled or receive their first public demonstrations. Brett Manire, co-owner of Performance Boat Center at Lake of the Ozarks, says he would like to see a new mid-range performance boating motor at the show, scheduled from Feb. 12–16, 2015.
In his predictions about the future of performance boating, Manire told LakeExpo.com, “In the last couple of years, our market has changed significantly with the Mercury engines… the new 1100s, the 1350s,” speaking of their reliability and ease of use.
“I see that continuing to grow,” he said, “but on a little bit smaller market. I think you’re gonna see new 600, 700, 800 horsepower engine coming out… gonna get a lot more people willing to buy new boats.”
With insurance companies “dialing in” to the nuances of the performance boating market and recognize the immense amounts of horsepower sported by these boats, performance boaters’ insurance premiums can be pricey. He predicts a newly designed Mercury mid-range performance engine might draw boaters to buy, offering some cost-savings, still with the ability to go fast.
It remains to be seen whether such an engine will be unveiled in February.
