Boatwrench.com Claims First Place at Jacksonville P1 SuperStock USA Race

10,000 people and more than 100 strong flotilla watched a field of nine P1 Panthers set the St. John’s river ablaze as P1 SuperStock USA returned to Jacksonville in style last weekend.

The teams put on a stunning show for the thousands of spectators who were able to witness some explosive racing action from the banks of the river. Controversy was aplenty as penalties, flips and crashes dominated the headlines on a day where only three full races could be completed.

It was Boatwrench who prevailed over Halloween Megastore on countback after finishing the day level on 45 points each. Xplode Marketing finished just two points back in third to fill the final place on the podium.

Race one provided the first controversy of the day as the Halloween Megastore team were denied victory after a penalty for missing the final buoy after cutting the penultimate corner too tight dropped them to last of the finishers. This handed Team Barbados the win.

Race two was altogether more straightforward as Xplode Marketing took the lead from the inside lane and stayed in front for the full six laps, clocking a top speed of 58.74 mph in the process.

Race three proved to be the most dramatic of the day as the Visit Jacksonville boat arrived into turn five too quickly and ran wide, forcing the boat into an uncontrollable flip. With Team Barbados following closely behind they were unable to avoid a collision, bringing out the red flag and forcing the race to be cancelled. Thankfully everyone emerged from the crash unscathed, although Visit Jacksonville driver Jimmy Hill was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The final race of the day followed the theme of controversy as all but two of the remaining seven teams were handed one minute penalties for jumping the start. This demoted the top four, including Boatwrench who had crossed the line in first, to leave Halloween Megastore top of the race standings and putting to bed the agony of failing to win the opening race of the day. The penalties also promoted Crimeline from last place into second.

The P1 SuperStock USA roadshow now travels to Sarasota for the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival on July 2-3.
