APBA to Host Premier International Title Event in Washington State

Springfield, Ohio – May 27, 2026
— The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is proud to announce that the United States has been awarded the 2027 UIM Jet Sprint World Championships, following approval by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and confirmation through international calendar allocations at the COMINSPORT mid-term meetings held in Lisbon, Portugal in April 2026.

The championship will take place in Washington State, USA, across two premier venues:
  • Round 1: August 7–8, 2027 Extreme Sports Park – Port Angeles, Washington
  • Round 2: August 14–15, 2027 State Fair Park – Yakima, Washington
This prestigious event will bring the world’s top Jet Sprint competitors to the United States, showcasing one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic disciplines in powerboat racing. Known for its tight, technical courses and breathtaking speeds, Jet Sprint racing continues to expand globally, drawing elite drivers and teams from multiple continents.

APBA views the selection of the United States as host nation as a significant milestone in the continued growth of international powerboat racing domestically.

“We are honored that the UIM has entrusted the United States and APBA with the 2027 Jet Sprint World Championships,” said APBA President Kurt Romberg. “This is another strong example of the momentum we are seeing in our sport, both here at home and around the world. The United States continues to play a leading role in hosting premier international events, and we are excited to welcome the world’s best Jet Sprint teams to compete on our waters.”

Romberg added: “The growth of Jet Sprint racing has been remarkable, and bringing this championship to the U.S. underscores our commitment to advancing the sport at every level. Events like this not only elevate competition but inspire the next generation of racers and fans.”

The event will be conducted by American Sprint Boat Racing (ASBR), a leading Jet Sprint organization in the United States. Founded in 2012, ASBR has played a critical role in developing the discipline domestically, building competitive fields, advancing safety standards, and producing high-quality racing events.

“For more than a decade, our goal has been to build a professional Jet Sprint racing series in the United States,” said Dan Morrison, President of American Sprint Boat Racing. “After years of developing tracks, refining our operations, and building a strong community of racers and event professionals, we feel ready to compete on the world stage. Our entire team and racing community are beyond excited for this opportunity and proud to represent the United States and APBA in a UIM World Championship.”

The 2027 World Championships will also provide a critical platform for American competitors, as participation in a UIM/APBA-sanctioned premier event strengthens eligibility for prestigious honors, including induction into the APBA Hall of Champions and invitations to the UIM Awards Giving Ceremony in Monaco, one of the highest recognitions in international powerboat racing.

Fans, teams, and stakeholders are encouraged to mark their calendars for what promises to be a landmark event on the global powerboat racing calendar.

The full 2027 UIM International Racing Calendar is expected to be officially published in mid-December 2026 via the UIM website.
