31 years ago today

This picture was taken in Italy in 1980 of the Pantera 28' triple outboard M-24.

My Father is the only guy I know that has traveled to Italy twice in one week. He raced @ Viareggio one weekend, came back and raced the Benihana race on a Wednesday went back and raced in Venice, all in one week.

The races in Europe at that time were way over 200 miles in length, so he put over 500 miles of Open Ocean behing him in one week! For that he won the Italian Championship.

JO

PS, Yes he had 2 identical 28' Panteras. one here and one over in Europe.

I am glad you enjoy it. I have many more great old pics. I can continue to post.

JO

During this era, I was about 10 yrs. old. And I read every article in my Fathers boating magazines. It was the only avenue I had to find out more about these boats, and it obviously became a part of my life that formed me, now, almost 30 years later, I still just love this stuff.
You are more than encouraged to post as much as you want of this type of history. I am certain I'm not alone in the appreciation of it.
Thanks for taking the time to participate and share.
Many of us truly enjoy the education.

I'd like to move this thread to the Dock for more input, then would move it back into the Pantera section when you say.

If okay with you.

People need to reflect on, and learn about, some of the crazy things these guys did. And did them with class......:)

I have been called a lot of things b4, but class???

Never been a Dom Perignon drinker (@ least not often) I am a Bud guy, a little rough around the edges.

Later,
pp.

PS, rather than me make a recount of the trip, I will let you guys (the ones that are interested in this topic) ask the questions and I will try to answer!

Great moment in offshore racing history, I am proud to own a Pantera and proud to consider the Nunez family my friends

Same here buddy!
When are you going to take me on a 200 mph's run?
I want to be scared. You know what I have said,
unless you are scared, you are not going fast enough.

I would be honored and I have heard you say that so many times when I was racing my Pantera its burned in my brain.

PS. I scare myself every race LOL

My Father and Ralph Linero set the Miami to New York Outboard Record from Miami to New York in a Pantera 24' powered by twin Mercury 2.4 outboards on August 18, 1978.Here are a few pics.

Impressive even with today's technology to complete that course in a 24 Ft boat, let alone 31 yrs ago!!

I like revisiting some of these old stories that I remember being told as a kid but now can appreciate as an adult.

Pepe, how did you keep your cigars lit out in the Atlantic?! :sifone:

The Nunez family are some of my favorite people. The fact that they build cool boats is almost a bonus to that. I too wear my "Pantera Colors" with pride! :sifone:

I will also say that my fellow Pantera owners that I've met over the last few years are some of the best guys I've met in boating. Becoming a part of La Familia Pantera seems to take a certain personality type... From Florida, to Georgia, to Tennessee, to Michigan, to Arizona and Sweden... Good dudes all around.

Okay, chatted with Jo. Merged the two threads in here so everyone can enjoy and ask questions without jumping back and forth.....:)

And Jo, Class in a raceboat has nothing to go with what you drink......:sifone:

Okay, 40 plus hours in a 24 foot boat from Miami to New York......

Did you run the outside mostly? And I'm working on the miles, does anyone know what it would be close?
