------I was walking around St.Claire last night and noticed several of the deep-Vs were not step hulls. Is this because they turn better, or maybe I should say easier than thier stepped bretheren. Maybe the extra speed in the straights is being offset by extra horsies in the non-step, and the turns are safer???? Enlighten me, guys....................Bill S

A lot of it has to do with guys racing on a shoestring budget and cannot afford a newer, faster hull and all the re-rigging that goes with it. There are more than a couple of OPA boats that are well over 10 years old and some over 20. And in many cases they are as fast or faster than a step boat because it is easier and cheaper to make more power than a new hull. There are also guys that are very comfortable with their old boats and that is worth it's weight in gold. Also in OPA style bracket racing absolute top speed is not important since you can't go too fast for your class. In a spec class like the super V's every MPH is huge, thus they are all stepped.
