Did a quick search and didn't see anything. What's the best, least destructive way to get something off a boat that's been stuck on with 5200. Specifically trim tabs...

I've heard the suggestion of using something like a piano wire as a saw.
Never tried it, but it's not a bad idea.

Now, why are we pulling tabs? I'm under the assumption this is on the 6-pack.

there is nothing that can't be removed with either a big enough hammer or a sufficiently large quantity of high explosives... maybe we should consult Sunkin??

A buddy of mine used this stuff and said it worked pretty well, never tried it myself though.

I used a putty knife that I heated up to take my tabs off that were sealed with 5200 and it worked better than any other way I have tried. I used a heat gun and tried to heat the tab and putty knife.

I've used the Marine Formula stuff. As long as you're not impatient, it works pretty well.

The heat gun putty knife thing works too. A hot putty knife will probably damage a painted surface though.

Thanks guys! Hopefully will give it a shot on sunday. Pulling the tabs to get them blasted and powder coated. They had a bit of electalysis and I'd like to get them coated so the salt doesn't eat 'em right up.

Det cord. Solves more problems than duct tape. Way more fun too.

Body shop supply will have it. Used for cutting out urethane bead around windshields. Works great.

The mistake a lot of people make is trying to just pry them off ,we used to put a comealong on the hinge pin and heat the tab long as you do not exceed the boiling point of water nothing will be hurt they slowly pull off.

I've used a product called "De-Bond" with some success. You have to pry an edge loose to get it started, but once you get going, it makes the process easier.
