Team United—Orillia Firefighter’s Relief Fund Highlights

We had a great day on the water for the Team United—Orillia Firefighter’s Relief Fund poker run on Saturday, June 13. The temperature was a little cool when running, but the rain managed to stay away, and it was downright hot when we returned to the Orillia town dock.

We had two classes running this time. Alec Cloke’s new 43’ Nortech Center Console was the pace boat for the under 55 mph class, and Joe Vassallo’s 39 Nortech “Miss Behavin” lead the over 55 mph class.

The boats left the Orillia town dock just after 10am, with the first stop in Pefferlaw, followed by stops in Cooke’s Bay, Lagoon City, and then a terrific lunch at Oscar’s in Barrie. We made it back to the town dock around 4pm for some well-earned pops on the dock.

We had a fun dinner and a very lively silent auction and 50/50 draw at King’s Buffett and we raised $7000 for the Orillia Firefighter’s Relief Fund! Below is a recap of the winners:

• Mathew Dean and his 35’ Cobra, “Total Kaos” had the best poker hand…for his fourth win in the last twelve poker runs. Lady luck is definitely on Mathew’s side!
• Rick Burley’s 32’ Powerquest “Hot Stuff” had the second best hand.
• Mike Holmes and his 27’ Baja Outlaw came in third.
• Pierre Brousseau and his crew from his 42’ MTI PR won for “Best Dressed Crew.”
• Bob Barnhart took home the trophy for “Hard Luck”. It was great to see Bob so soon after his knee surgery!
• Dwight Powell won the 50/50 draw, and graciously donated the money back to the charity.

All in all, it was a terrific day and night that was filled with a lot of laughs and good natured ribbing!

We wish to thank all the sponsors and the donors for their wonderful support and we are looking forward to seeing you in Orillia on July 18th for the Priestly Demolition “Run for Rescue”.
