I'm at 101,500 miles on original brake pads/rotors, etc... on my 04 GMC 2500HD 4x4. But the time has come. Because I tow the boat a lot I want to go with something big/safe/reliable for replacements. What have you guys used to replace OEM GMC brakes? Is there a complete system that works good? My boat trailer has surge brakes, which leaves a lot to be desired with a 10,000lb boat on top of it. Any input appreciated.

06-07-2009 09:11 PMI bought all the high-end GBC stuff. Pads went away quick and the rotors warped almost immediately. I replaced them with Autozone Chinese crap and their full ceramic pad. Stops strong and no pulsation. The rotors have been on for 80K and I get 35-40K out of the pads.
One of the best upgrades you can do is replace the stock rubber lines with Goodridge braided stainless kits. You get much better pedal feel.
Get a good electric/hydraulic setup for your rig and stop white-knuckling it. You can't get enough brakes under your truck to match the results.

I highly recommend the Power Slot Cryo Rotors from frozenrotors.com. I've had them on my Suburban 2500 for about 40K miles and absolutely love them. No wear, whatsoever. The price is only a little more than a standard rotor. They don't stop any better, but they last much longer. I found out about them from a friend that raced a Subaru rally car. He went through rotors every race. But, the cryogenically treated rotors lasted a full season.

06-12-2009 10:28 PMIf you got over 100,000 miles on the originals, why wouldn't you just buy OEM? Unless it doesn't stop good. I changed the pads on my F250 at 100,000 miles and they still could have gone another 50,000. The rotors all looked good too. I just bought new pads from Ford and they lasted until the motor died.

I've had good luck with Brembo slotted rotors and Hawk LTS pads on my Denali. Much better than stock.

It is hard to beat GM's oem brake pads and rotors IMHO at least as far as the
Duramax equipped trucks are concerned. My 2006 at 92k miles still has nearly half the original front brakes left.Mark

OEM Pads. or AC delco Ceramic pads. both are the same run them on all my trucks. IE 3 3/4 ton trucks.

You probably have other issues. I would suggest a full system drain and fluid replacement. make CERTAIN that you have the correct fluid- they're not all compatible. I had a problem like this once- refaced the rotors and broke the glaze on the pads, then reseated them. Went away.
But the lines greatly increase pedal feel. No more sponge.
