Taurus revolvers

Anyone had any experience with a Taurus Raging Bulll 44 mag. I know they are not quite the same quality as S&W, but I have had my eye on one for a while. This one is SS with 6" barrel and a built in compensator. It will be a toy just to play with at the range and maybe hog hunt with it. Would a .41 mag be better?

I would stick with .44 personally.

I have always liked the Taurus Raging Bull. Good gun for the money.

About the only difference between a Taurus and a Smith revolver will be fit and finish. They're both going to go bang when you pull the trigger and neither is ever going to blow up.

As far as the 41 Magnum, if it weren't for Dirty Harry, the 41 would be much more prolific.

Shooting 210 gr projectiles, the 41 at 1300fps delivers almost 800 ft/lbs of energy The 44 witha 240 gr is 100fps slower and delivers 50 ft/lbs less. At 50 yards, they're neck and neck. The only real advantage the 44 has is its capacity for heavier bullets. I believe you can load as much as a 280 grain and load it pretty hot too. In the end, it's tough to extract alot of versatility out of a magnum handgun unless you do your own reloading.

Hornady has a load for 300gr. The max load is showing 1200fps. Thats gotta be a handfull.

I have a Taurus .357 and love it. Absolutely no problems with it.

We went to the local big gun show. Not a single Taurus Raging Bull in 6" barrell and 44 mag to be had. I am talking 25 or 30 large gun vendors. Several in shorter barrells and a couple in .41 and many in .357. Some 8" barrells. Checked several of the main internet gun dealers also and all out of stock. So I found one on Gunbroker.com and bought it in the black version. The ammo sellers were going crazy. Everyone buying in bulk. Most were sold out within a couple of hours. I talked to a couple of the ammo guys and they said that the .41 ammo is harder to find just because it is not as popular, so that's why I decided on the .44 mag.

A piece top keep an eye on is the Smith X-frame in 460. You can shoot the 45 Long Colt in it and for hunting, the 460 Mag has amazing ballistics.

The only downside- It's massive.

When these X-frame pistols first came out the privces were through the roof. I bought a 500 not long ago for $575. Everyone I've seen for sale came with a box of ammo with 3 fired cases in it. The first one, the second "That really didn't happen" shot and the third "I gotta check before I dump this thing" shot.

The gun is fairly useless. You could hunt a pig to say you killed one with it, but why abuse yourself?

Ever shot the 454 Casull? There were several of these Taurus revolvers available in that caliber at the show. What is it based on?

Found a deal on the same gun in .357 mag. Seem to be alot of them available in .357 and .454 Casull. I think they have discontinued some of these models. What do you guys think about the .357?

My buddy owns the raging bull in .44 mag I have the ruger super redhark in .454 casull, The .44 is ok, I think the way the gun is balanced that it kicks harder than mine with a 300 grain plus p .454 in though, but i am scoped he is not, I took mine to the range the other day warmed up with .45 long colt and then put some 275 grain .454 in it and let it rip, a few guys and my buddy next to me were ****ting bricks, I love that gun.

A great round..use 38s for lots of shooting and 357 mag rounds for defense. Look at a model 19 S&W in 357.

How much have you shot it? I'm looking at getting one, but was worried the hype was more than the gun. Definately seems like a good self defense gun which is why I wanted it.

The .410 is useless as a self-defense caliber. And if you want the 45ACP as your round, why not use a weapon that's half the size- of the same size and carries twice the amount of rounds?

I have a glock .40 and a Kimber Ultra Carry II .45 I've just watch a couple video's on this gun and it seems pretty effective. I'm not sure I'd want to be on receiving end of it.
