I just rec'd an e-mail fro a guy in Montreal that is in the process of restoring the old 38 foot Bertram Copper Kettle.

I asked him to keep us up to date with photos and we will post as we get them.

He might be bringing the boat to the Around Long Island race in September of 2010 that HORBA is putting on.

I have a little history about that particular boat.

After it was "Copper Kettle" is was sold to Paul Clauser and campaigned as "Satisfaction". Howard Quam bought it in early 1980 from Clauser, painted it black and gray and it was "Flap Jack" #45. In May of 1980 it spun out during the Bacardi race from Turnberry Isle and Smiley Johns, who was throttling, was killed. Howard and his son, Lester, were not injured.

I'd rather be on the boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with my boat on the rocks.

Nothing like these Magnum Sport boats. Racing or leisure. Best of luck bringing her back to life.
